This place amazing. If you are a bibliophile, you owe it to yourself to visit. If you have no idea what bibliophile means, visit anyway. They even buy/sell pre-loved books.

Fun place to get lost in for a day, I love bringing my camera here for content. So many good books, used book section and tons of fun food spots nearby.

You won’t know what gem you’ll find but it’ll find you, no worries!!

Strange experience. Overall, it's very dark and the books are limited in scope. Go just to see the gothic environment. The staff were not exactly book aficionados. For example, when a staffer asked if I needed help, I told him I was looking for space, or astronaut books and he asked if that was a series. He was
Helpful when I explained further, taking me to the science section. The manager also seemed clueless.

Coolest bookstore I've ever been to. One of my favorite places to take people who are visiting. The place is magical. If you've been, you understand. If you haven't, you need to go ASAP. They're open fairly late!

This is a large independent bookstore, consisting of two levels. It would be easy to lose yourself among the books here for a few hours in this store if you wanted to. Don't make the mistake that I almost made...on my first brief stop here, I didn't check out the upstairs, but fortunately I had the chance to rectify this mistake on a second visit a couple of hours later. There are a few book-related photo opportunities upstairs, as well as some artist galleries as well.

Hip place with art gallery shops on upper level. Beware the summer months: no AC, but lots of circulating fans.

With the days of tablets and kindle Bookstores might not be around forever, but this place still manages to capture a crowd. I love coming here to not only shuffle through the thousands of books, but they also sell records and great price.

Basically a non-operational bank converted into a bookstore. Disneyland for all book enthusiasts and a DTLA treasure!

Location/Parking: Located on the corner of Spring and Fifth. Plenty of meter parking. I would recommend taking Dash D (commuter bus). They drop you off at 4th and Spring.

Ambiance/Decor: Relaxing and calm. The decor kinda resembles something from a Harry Potter movie. Just don't expect to see Harry Potter, Voldemort, and company... around.

Types of books: Treasure cove of books for all ages and covers a vast amount of genres.

Processes: 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 steps... that's all you need folks!

1) Once you get to the front entrance, give the attendant your bags. They'll place them in a cubby hole and give you a number to retrieve your items after you're done. If you don't have any proceed to 2.

2) Peruse.... Go nuts and explore two floors worth of books. Make sure you go to the second floor and check out the labyrinth of books. If you want to buy something, proceed to 3. If not, got to 4. If no belongings, leave the store.

3) Pay for purchase: If you buy something, pay for them... then go to step 4.

4) Lastly, retrieve your belongings.

Visit again? Would love too! :)

The coolest bookstore I ever been to. Located in DTLA, you can find parking on the street. There are new and old books here. Be sure to visit upstairs for art gallery and shops!

The main space has a really cool vibe, with couches in a central area. There's a corner section dedicated to rare books. My favorite area is upstairs, where you find The Labyrinth. It's literally a labyrinth of books, with shelves positioned every which way; it also has a tunnel of books and a window of books. And some artsy book displays. And some cool art studios. And really, you should just check it out already.

I can not say enough good things about this place. The space is essentially a love letter to books and the joy of reading. It's centrally located in downtown, so you can take the metro (another fun adventure) and explore the stacks and stacks of books in this library sized store. The tunnel of books and hanging open books lend a magical feel to the place and you could easily spend hours here.

This is one of the coolest places in downtown Los Angeles. It's a huge bookstore with two levels. Upstairs there is a room filled with books for only $1. I feel like I can get lost in there. The layout is very fun and quirky. Their shelves are setup almost like mazes and there are lots of nooks and crannies for you to hide and just read a good book by yourself. There is also an art gallery by local artists upstairs, with lots of cool paintings and photography. This place is a true hidden gem in the heart of dtla!

Ever want to take a stroll down memory lane? You'll find the books you grew up with like goosebumps and corduroy. A nice selection of vinyls too! During the artwalk, a whole lot of very interesting art was displayed, which is how I discovered the cute little stores with antique collectables like opera glasses.

Such a cute store! KNOWN FOR: tunnel made of books.

PARKING: Street.
Ambiance: hectic/relaxing. There are so many people here on the weekends, but on the weekdays, well worth it.
--
Lower floor: Mostly new books, comics, etc.
Upper level: $1 section, artist area, small shops.

I love this place! Such a cute place to take a person from out of town. Lots of books to get lost in. I'd recommend coming on the weekday. It's SO busy!

I found out about this store because an author I adore got married there and I saw photos of the ceremony and thought the shop looked incredible. It did not disappoint. This place often turns up in those Buzzfeed lists of Bookstores Around the World That You Need to Visit and this is 100% accurate - you need to go here if you (are a nerd like me and) like bookstores. Or even if you just like stores that are really frickin' cool. The set up is incredible, and also they have books.

BEST BOOKSTORE IN ALL OF LOS ANGELES. Rivaling the ancient Pyramids of Giza! Curating with love and care a treasure trove of all the angels and demons of literature with a sprinkling of a myriad of one eyebrow raising watchamacallits!

Cute bookstore in the midst of downtown. From the outside, it looks like a place you wouldn't think about entering for a second but inside, there's an array of used and new books. Interesting art upstairs. Awesome place to tour around.
