This hostel has been managed by the same family for three generations (45+ years), and it shows. The gentleman who showed me two different rooms so I could have a better idea of the hostel's offering was so kind. He explained that his family believes in building a relationship with the guests of the hotel, and that they'd much rather charge under market prices and see guests come back for a repeat stay, than gouge guests during peak season and never see them again. As a result, rooms start at 34,90 euros per night, tax included, and that rate is the same regardless of the season - impressive!

All rooms are equipped with a small fridge and a microwave (big points in my book), and the location, in the very trendy shopping bastion of Chueca can't be beat. The decor of the hotel itself is a bit tired, (to give you an idea, there are prints of Van Gogh throughout), but for budget travelers looking for some comfort, cleanliness and privacy, I have yet to spot a better deal.

There is wifi in the small lounge area near the lobby, but for the time being, not in the rooms.

Local from Madrid

I appreciate a space that is neat and clean, even if that means that decor isn’t a top priority. This hostel is the epitome of this. The rooms are clean and neat, although if bed-size is important, you’ll find the room lacking in that area. Each room comes equipped with a mini-flat screen TV as well as a microwave and mini-refrigerator, in case buying snacks here or there (or drinks) tickles your fancy, you’ll be able to store and heat up things, right from the comfort of your room.

Hostal Prim is a cute little guest house located on Calle Prim, just a short walk from the Chueca district.
I was greeted by a lovely gentleman who was more than willing to give me a tour of the whole place, even bringing me to more than one room to make sure that I was happy with the first one. We had a chat about the city and the hostel and he told me that if I knew anyone else staying there that his daughters would deal with them instead because they were younger and could do a better job (he did a fantastic one!)
The rooms have microwaves and fridges as well as all of the basic necessities. The rooms that I saw had balconies too so the rooms were really bright and fresh! Everything was really clean and the rooms were tidy, with nothing out of place!

I chose this hotel because of it's close proximity to the Madrid Marathon start line.

As a single woman traveling on her own, this hostal provided a safe and comfortable stay. It is located in the center of the city, in a very safe area steps away from buses, trains and nightlife. I was perfectly comfortable walking out of my room at night to grab a late night.

The property itself is very secure. The owner provides you with three keys to the property for the front door, the lobby door and one leading to your room. (Note: lock your room from the inside once you're in because the doors do not lock on their own.) There is someone manning the front desk 24-7, in case anything goes wrong.

The rooms are basic, but decent sized and comfortable--mine had a fridge and microwave. The bathroom is tiny but spotless. The wi-fi worked perfectly.

The only downside was that the walls are THIN. I'm a heavy sleeper so that didn't necessarily bother me, but it may bother others. Overall, though, I recommend this for travelers on a budget.
