This is one of the most beautiful buildings we visited, architecturally. Take a minute to admire the 14th century Moorish arched entrance before going in to pick up some great local foodstuffs.

Love this market! It is in the Old Town of Malaga. It opens quite early in the morning. The market has 3 sections: the meat, the seafood and fruit & vegetables. Everything is so fresh and nicely presented. As a tourist, I love coming here to check out what's available, but I think the majority of the shoppers here are actually locals getting their fresh grocery. It is a great place to get a glimpse of the local life.

As I walked through the market, I had the urge to buy kilos of fresh clams, shrimps and fish and have someone cook them for me. I had thought that was the deal of those tapas stands at the edge of the market, but I was told that they only will cook whatever they have in their stand. I found one with a lot of seafood on displace and ordered razor clams, and two type of shrimps. That was one of the better breakfast I have had! Please do yourself a favor and visit this market next time you are in Malaga!

Considered the best market in Malaga, Ataranzas Market (or Mercado Central de Ataranzas) is a wonderland for carnivores, fish lovers, and vegetarians. The array of meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables is vast and seems endless. This is the place to go for people who envision cooking not as a task but as a culinary art.
