This beach is great for a tiny hike and for great views up on the cliffs. There are trails and ultimately a staircase to get down to the beach. It's beautiful on the beach and up on the cliffs. Looked like a great place for surfing, too. Expect to wait a while for parking.

From the guest house, it is an easy walk...past three houses...to the Point Dume State Beach and Reserve. From this bluff, there are walking trails that circle around the bluff, taking you to top of Dume ...which has a viewing point to whale watch and is great photo op...also has viewing deck along the way...located on outer point. There are trails that lead to both Dume Beach and Zuma Beach...or just enjoy upper views both for morning sunrises and night for full moon views. In springtime, the area is stunning with its blooms of yellow flowers...the area is a true California treasure.

point dume is the place to go if want a full beach experience - ocean, tide pools, cliffs/bluff, marine life, etc. you'll feel like you're in a romantic movie...

however, I wish the dead animals would be taken care of timely and properly.

otherwise, this beach is a must.

Point Dume is one of the best spots in LA to go & reflect. It's open to the public & one of the best places to take photos in LA. Come here to explore & climb rocks or just sit on a perch & retreat & enjoy the silence. If you're lucky you may even see a dolphin or two.

This is the most gorgeous place I have ever been to in my life. I'm serious, the point took my breath away when we reached the cliffs. Point Dume is located on a far back road in Malibu, CA next to million dollar homes and steep cliffs plunging into the Pacific ocean. We parked on the side of the road, I changed out of my flip flops and into some actual hiking shoes, and we trekked up this steep hill unsure of what we would see at the top. Once we got there my god, there was a sudden and steep drop and signs warning us to stay on the path - there were blue herons flying past us on the wind stream and below us were jagged rocks surfacing from the ocean. I heard the familiar call of sea lions and realized there was a large group of them laying on those tiny little rock islands. A few minutes later a pod of dolphins surfaced and we watched them swim out into the depths. Suddenly we saw whales surface for air and by this time I was just in complete awe of nature. We sat for quite some time and just observed, large seagulls soared past us on the wind current and the sea lions jumped in the ocean to hunt. We were completely immersed and the water below was so clear and pristine it looked completely untouched.

The best part was that there were barely any other people. This is definitely off the beaten path and possibly not very well known. Point Dume is absolutely spectacular. I had a permanent smile on my face for hours. If you choose you can also hike down the steep incline and below is a clean, gorgeous beach that seems to stretch for miles. The cliffs and steep hills can even be seen on the skyline beyond the beach in a foggy haze that is mesmerizing and beautiful.

Point Dume State Beach is an extension of Zuma. Sometimes locals refer to it as "Free Zuma" since a large stretch has free parking on Westward Beach Road until just beyond the Sunset Restaurant. It's a great stretch of beach from which to watch the sun set or to walk at night with a full moon glittering on the crashing surf.

Currently operated by Los Angeles County, this remote and wild beach northwest of Malibu and close to Ventura County beckons you to pull off PCH (Hwy 1) and just lie on the sand for a while. Often windy, the wave conditions are often just right for surfing, while on calmer days you can swim and snorkel. Tidepoolers can comb the beaches in almost any weather.

This is a great beach to go and enjoy. There is a lot of fun beach and surprisingly other activities to do here. My friends and I go to the southern end of the main beach and put out a couple of portable Chateaux (easy ups for the rest of ya hehe) we then spend a lazy day of kayaking, rock climbing, eating, playing in the water, taking photos, looking at tidal pools, etc.

This last summer we saw a pod of dolphinsjust off the beach cruising around frolicking in the swells. That same day was incredible since there was also a whale and her calf cavorting a 100meters off the shore.

The beach has some great hiking trails around it allowing for some great vistas and fun sites. In conjunction with the delightful visual stimulation is the fresh ocean scent and the clean smell of nature. Occasionally some sea lions will crawl up on some rocks a bit off shore and start talking to each other and any people that get too close by.

My reason for giving a lower star rating than most is simple. This beach has very little free parking, the paid parking is also limited. But the primary issue... The bathrooms were not open and they had a few port-a-potties instead. Talk about a major faux pas in the middle of the busy season. Curious what they were thinking, when I know the answer was simply that they were not... Jackwagons!

As to the dude at least one other pointed out doing pushups and sit ups halfway up the cliff hanging upside down... my whole group was laughing at him too hahaha

Watch the crowds, especially on weekends. Good longboard wave. Be respectful.

Do you like to climb and spend your day on the beach? Come here and relax. Parking is expensive, $10, so try to find non paid parking if possible on nearby roads.

Love it here. As you get close to the cliff, the wind dies down and it feels much warmer!

Sunset in Malibu was so quiet. The seagull were great companions and barely made any noise, they were not afraid at all of us.
