marble patio, exotic fountains, peaceful gardens, elegant woodwork and stucco decorations. Grand Vizier Sidi Moussa began construction on the palace in the latter part of the 19th century and was completed decades later by Grand Vizier Bou Ahmed. Grand Vizier Bou Ahmed lived in the palace with his four wives and 24 concubines. Later, the palace was used by French authorities after Morocco became a French Protectorate.

"Bahia": literally, the wonderful, the brilliant, this name is likely to refer to the favorite wife of Ba Ahmed, Grand Vizier and sponsor of the palace. The plans were designed by the architect Marrakchi Si Mohamed El Mekki El Mesfioui, as a real labyrinth, reflecting the whims of a powerful man. The best Moroccan and Andalusian artisans worked at this palace for fourteen years. The earthenware will be imported from Tetouan, the Meknes marble, while the cedar wood used for the painted and illuminated ceilings, comes from the Middle Atlas.

Bahia Palace is a wonderful maze of a palace, where each room is decorated in even more beautiful tiles and colors. Be sure to look up as the ceilings are just as beautiful as the tiles below you. It's a good visit for the history and sights.

Lovely former palace with intricate wood and stone carvings. One of the major tourist sights. Cheap to enter and only take 15-20 min to see.

A nice old palace constructed in the 1500 islamic style, full of stuck and each ceiling is unique. Very touristic attraction - but listening to the guide will let you peek into Moroccan culture.

This place isn't in the best condition, though they seem to be actively working on restoring it. What's still there though is gorgeous, and well worth seeing. You can join in on one of the guided tours, but I found it far nicer to wander around alone, trying to avoid the crowds. You get more of an appreciation for the rooms if you can stand in them alone.
