While people often refer to Menlo Park as "that place next to Palo Alto," the town has of late become somewhat of a hotspot in the Bay Area. The reason? It is the home to global companies like Facebook. The heart of Menlo Park life centers on Santa Cruz Avenue, a shady street lined with restaurants, coffee shops and a few boutiques. Rains are fairly common during the winter, but almost unheard of from May through October, so if you are planning on taking advantage of the area’s many outdoor activities (rather than haunting the halls of tech offices), this is the best time to visit.

Love this town. Small town feel with lots of great restaurants and upscale shopping. Closes early evenings except Left Bank Restaurant

Very nice and opulent suburban neighborhood that is great for families. Not much to do if you're young and single though.

Gogobot's hometown! Menlo Park has a great little downtown. Refuge, Mademoiselle Colette and Bistro Vida are just a few of my favorite spots. It has lots of great neighborhoods and sidewalks to stroll on.

Cute little peninsula town. If you're on Caltrain, it's only a 5min walk from the stop to the downtown strip that has some great local shops and restaurants.

Stole it! Great city, just a bit on the quiet edge ... if it was a bit more lively downtown I think everyone would enjoy it a bit more. Can be super quiet after 9:00 p.m. every day. Might be too quiet for some people.

A quaint next-door-neighbor to Palo Alto. It has very good restaurants and a nice downtown with great retail.

Who knew Menlo Park got New England-worthy fall colors? One more reason why this sleepy Silicon Valley community continues to surprise me. Plus, the boutique shops and restaurants on the Santa Cruz main drag are quite impressive.
