Ultra was great - back in the early 2000's. Now it's a fucking shit show of mediocre watered down EDM with 15 year olds. Absolute nightmare.

So much fun! Was a bit annoyed people kept massaging me with the assumption that I was on drugs. Also my phone reception sucked so much. The food/drinks inside is a rip off, but that's normal at all day festivals like these.

Other than that, the weather was perfect and the line up was great. The event ended early but the after parties kept us going.

Security is a hit or miss. Some will let you in with an unopened pack of gum then there's some that chucks it into the trash.

TIP:
- Bring light jacket just in case you need it (you're near water so it may get chilly if you are sensitive like me)
- Bring cash! They don't take credit cards
- compy shoes
- portable battery chargers are a life saver
- avoid walking home if the path is not lit or if not many people are walking in that direction....very ghetto

There are no words to describe this year's Ultra experience.

I am still depressed how fast Ultra came and left. I had an amazing time and I've met awesome people from all over the world. Where else can you get hot-looking Europeans, Latin Americans, Canadians, Australians, Asians and people from all over the U.S. to party in one place?! This was just too much fun. The line-up was insane, the visuals were great and the bass was mind-blowing.

If you love electronic music, then you need to be in Miami for the Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival. The area does get busy at this time so book early for accommodation and restaurants.

Being one of the largest electronic music festivals in the world, Ultra is a unique event with many performances from all the different electronic music genres. This is the place to dance like nobody’s watching.
The best part of the festival was the performances. Each stage was crowded with hard-core fans and people looking for something new. The diversity made for dynamic scenes that were completely different from each other. If one was to rate each performance from 1-10, 10 would be a burst of freakish awesomeness to the soul and 1 would be, well, great. It’s a waste of everyone’s time to include anything less than that in this scale.
Despite what one would expect from a Grammy-nominated and globally-acclaimed DJ, Paul Van Dyk’s performance was laidback and mellow. The turnout was huge, with hundreds of fans lounging while drinking their $7 beers and chatting between friends. “We are Alive” and “Another Way” were just two of the top hits he played. It was a long performance with no “wow” factor, yet enjoyable in a relaxed type of way. Wishfully thinking, this describes a regular day at “the” park in a perfect world.
Following Paul Van Dyk was Ferry Cornstern. Holding his headphones to one ear and mixing his manual equipment, it was obvious that he was spontaneously choosing the songs based on the vibes the audience gave. Many were danced with their eyes closed during the performance of the song, “Sublime.” He maintained perfect momentum, managing to balance different beats with his smooth dance music, known as easy listening trance. The dancing increased along with the level of hype.
Now Pendulum, my favorite performance of the event, captivated the crowd with their first two songs to the point that listeners stood there in awe, and this was just the beginning. Like ninjas, they managed to inject crack in our systems the moment the jungle sounds, known as “Tarantula,” began to play. This performance made one feel as if experiencing some sort of pleasurable seizure from the chest to the brain. Only God knows what kind of crazy dancing took place at this moment, because the natural high everyone was on made it impossible to notice anything other than this freakishly awesome feeling. The energy was over the top, but felt so good.
Fortunately, Subfocus stepped in to mellow out the scene with his sci-fi dub step. He played all of his new songs including “Scarecrow,” which got everyone talking and gave a much-needed break. However, this break was only temporary, for things were about to get crazy again.
The crowd’s reaction was magical when the short and funky half-Jamaican, Goldie, stepped on the stage. It was when he began performing that things got interesting. The sky could no longer take the massive beats and it began to rain as hard as Goldie played his classic song, “Kemistry.” He managed to give such an awesome performance that the crowd went on dancing despite the mud, bringing out everyone’s inner child. His animated movements and smiling face proved that he was equally or more excited than his raving crowd.
Another great performance happened to be the most anticipated by drum and bass fans. The trio, Planet of the Drums, is made up of the top three drum and bass DJs of all time, DJ Dara, DieselBoy, and AK1200. The crowd was screaming for them. They wanted them BAD! Well, the trio did not disappoint. Dara began their performance with an awesome mix of old and new songs. The song, “Devil Inside,” was definitely a favorite. Then DieselBoy came in and mixed unusual genres with drum and bass, such as rock, jazz, industrial, and classical. The experience with DieselBoy was a lot like dipping pizza in ranch dressing, strange and amazing!
AK’s performance was like a round of hot, passionate sex. His intro song, “Drowning,” built up to the massive climax that was the rest of their performance. It began an OMG moment, the crowd started fist-pumping, and then all hell broke loose when the song “Planet Dust” came on. The music penetrated fan’s souls resulting in synchronized dancing and expressions of complete euphoria. ORGASM! Every single person present was exhausted from the exquisite affair that had just taken place with the world’s best drum and bass artists. Light up a cigarette and enjoy!
Ultra Music Festival is a great experience for both fans of and those new to electronic music. It is the place to watch your all-time favorite artists kick ass and/or expand that list. Lovers of electronic music will not find a more satisfying event in the United States. So go, dance to your heart’s content and then talk about it at work on Monday morning, making your anal-retentive office manager waste both time and money on a drug test for ya. That’s the only thing yours truly would have done differently.

Ultra was an incredible experience for anyone who likes electronic/dance music. About 9 stages with artists playing continuously for 12 hours each day... I have a difficult time deciding where to go and who to see. One of the craziest weekends of my life!

This was such an amazing experience! In 2010, the 2-day event was sold out! And in 2011, the 3-day event was SOLD OUT again! Hopping around in furry boots through the muddy fields and stages, the music and lights are just too amazing to rate this festival any less. The main stages were out in the sun with no shade, while smaller stages had tents. This music festival kind of prepared me for what's to come with Burning Man!

The main three-day festival takes place in downtown Miami's Bicentennial Park. Huge DJs like Tiësto, Deadmau5 and David Guetta will be performing for 50,000 fans on a dozen stages. The $500 tickets are pretty much sold out ... good luck with the scalpers!
