Their building is a work of art. Try to be in front of the entrance when the museum opens or closes to catch the kinetic elements. The museum recently added a large wing to showcase more of their Modern and Contemporary collection. A must visit when in Milwaukee.

I love the Milwaukee Art Museum. They have so many great events year round. I like the museum after dark nights where you get to see the museum in a different perspective. Also is a favorite stop for picture.

I drove from Chicago during my very short vacation just to see the "floating" museum in Milwaukee, and it was absolutely worth the drive! The museum was beautiful, the harbor was nice and cool, and the Midwestern were really friendly.

I would walk a couple of blocks to avoid the parking fee, if possible.

The museum's architecture alone is worth the visit. It is quite literally nicknamed "The Floating Museum" on Lake Michigan. Truly enjoyable rotating exhibitions and great discounts for entry to locals.

30,000 works of art. 400,000+ visitors a year. 125 years of collecting art. From its roots in Milwaukee’s first art gallery in 1888, the Museum has grown today to be an icon for Milwaukee and a resource for the entire state.

This stunning Santiago Calatrava "sailing ship" addition is definitely worth the trip and is a welcome sight on the waterfront. I love great architecture like this and am pleased to see that downtown Milwaukee is improving from previous years.

And it is easy to forget about the art when you're paying more attention to the moving metal sails. But do come inside and look around the exhibits and experience the calmness of the spacious interior hall and the white marble flooring.

The building itself is a soaring eye-catcher, designed by Santiago Calatrava and finished in 2001. It's simultaneously a plane, bird, and sailboat. I was completely impressed with the museum. During my visits I've been stimulated by the special exhibitions, films, and how they present their collection. The cafe featured authentic Milwaukee bratwurst and Milwaukee root beer. The museum is right on the lake surrounded by green lawn and is easy to reach on public transport.

You could go to the MIlwaukee Art Museum to look at the art, or just to look at the building! Enjoy browsing around a wonderful collection that includes masterpieces from the classical to the very modern, and then have a snack in the lovely cafe overlooking the water. What a treat!
