Minnesota Vacations

The beautiful state of Minnesota is rightfully nicknamed the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” as it houses 11,842 significant bodies of water, including Lake Calhoun and Lake Minnetonka. Forests and wilderness fill areas once covered by glaciers: Minnesota is the most northern state in the country besides Alaska, and some of the oldest rocks on earth can be ... Read more
found here, dating back to 3.6 billion years ago. ("Holy cow!") The “Twin Cities” of Minneapolis and St. Paul offer contemporary attractions like shopping, world-class dining and museums. But Minnesota shines for its natural beauty, a fact not ignored by the locals, as 36% of the state actively fishes (much to the dismay of local brown trout.)

things down a bit in the summer and warms things up in the winter. Minneapolis is gorgeous in the summer with temperatures that stay in the low 80s (26-28), inviting everyone outside to enjoy nearby lakes; but in the winter, temperatures rarely go above freezing and snow is abundant. This is true for most of the state. Winters tend to be long and brutal with frequent snow and ice storms (though the Mall of America offers some respite).

Minnesota has something for anyone, and is really hard to try to categorize into one type of anything. It's home to the headwaters of the Mississippi, and has lots of rivers and lakes--even Lake Superior can be found here with the furthest inland international port in the country. You can find forests in the northern part of the state, and rolling hills and farmland in the south. You have mining operations in the north, and plains in the west. You have a large metro area with the Twin Cities, and the home of the largest shopping mall in the United States. Temperature-wise throughout the course of the year can fluctuate by 160 degrees (or more) if you take into account windchill in winter and heat index in summer.

After five long years of smoking animals, my family finally staged an intervention and sent me to an animal rehabilitation center in Minnesota. It was simultaneously the best and most horrifying experience of my life. Kind of like eating fried chicken while thinking about the fact that it used to move by itself.
