If you want to have the full experience of the Port Market we recommend eating at the bar of Palenque for the Asadores take pride and if you ask them for the recomendation of the day, they will pamper you. The plus side is that the owner is there to receive his guests.

This market is amazing. Anything you can think of eating can be found here. The food is delicious. You can get a whole cow/chicken/etc laid out in front of you! Absolutely fantastic!

I fell in love with the Mercado del Puerto the instant I walked in its doors. I loved the SMELL of the place, to be precise. Imagine a sort of Farmer's Market in Los Angeles, a beautiful open-air market...except that all the stalls and restaurants are almost singlehandedly dedicated to one thing - beef. Seafood and various other meats are also on offer but you don't come here for that, beef is king in Uruguay, even more so than in Argentina, and the Mercado del Puerto is all about beef. Unbelievably large portions ranging from intestines to prime cuts, all cooked on massive open grills right before your eyes. The building itself is said to be quite beautiful but I have to admit I didn't exactly pay attention to anything but the beef!
