Montreal and Southwestern Quebec Vacations

The island-city of Montreal is draped in a vivid multiculturalism that sometimes gives visitors the feel they are in Paris, other times that they are in Boston, and occasionally that they are in Canada. The city's population lives relatively comfortably: it has been routinely declared one of the world's most livable places. Sip coffee at an elegant ... Read more
cafe on a cobblestone street in Old Montreal, or check out a heavy metal concert at the Parc Jean-Drapeau, site of the 1967 World Expo. North of the St. Lawrence River loom the Laurentian Mountains, which are peppered with ski resorts. One of its most famous is Mont Tremblant, which offers not just slopes, but ice climbing, ice skating, and over 90 trails. South of the city is farmland, dotted with lakes. This area was settled by English loyalists who fled America after the revolution, which lends the area a tinge of New England.

Weather

Summer is when the masses come to Montreal. The mercury occasionally summons the strength to kiss 80F (27C) and the calendar is full of fun festivals that welcome a constant stream of energetic crowds. This may ... Read more
be the high season, complete with the accompanying inflated hotel prices, but this is also the time when the city is most alive. The spring and fall have just barely tolerable weather and fewer crowds, but not nearly as many enticing events. It is possible to visit during winter because a unique Underground City allows locals and visitors to explore tons of shops and restaurants without ever stepping foot into the frigid 26F (-3C) temperatures, but it would be a shame (and, frankly, a little weird) to miss seeing what exists above ground. Of course, winter is a real draw for skiers, who will love the snow from November to March.

I adore the city of Montreal. Everytime I come here, I fall in love with it a little bit more. My boyfriend lives here and when I don't visit Montreal often enough I actually miss it. It's really my second home now - beautiful city with art, cultural and history, and very good food. Montreal is represented by a graceful mix of European artistic and cultural sentiments with the warm and casual style of North Americans. It's most definitely one of the most liberal, diverse, and vibrant cities.
