time of year when hotel rates soar (and you might even see some of Hollywood’s rich-and-famous in an upscale lobby). Summer (June to August) is also gorgeous with temperature highs in the 70s (low- to mid-20s Celsius) and lows in the 40s (single digit Celsius). However, you won’t find any bargains at this time of the year, either, so expect higher hotel rates and crowds on your mountain hike. Spring can be muddy and finicky with melting snow and variable weather, while fall is quieter and cool with golden aspen leaves lighting up the mountains.

It's the largest large town/small city near Telluride, and is the place most people fly to get there for ski holidays. The road can be crowded and the town itself is fairly charmless, but it is an important regional hub.
