An intrepid Atlantic vanguard off the coast of Massachusetts, Nantucket is a frozen-in-time New England paradise straight out of Herman Melville's Moby Dick. During its sunny months (May through October, usually), festivals and gatherings abound. You'll be transported back to a time of cobblestone streets, lazy summer days, street fairs, bicycle ... rides to the beach, and some of the best ice cream in New England. If you're on the island in October, you can even watch the harvest of the red sea of cranberries (a sight to behold, indeed). Need to feel like a kid again? The laid back beach/island atmosphere and the New England sensibility make Nantucket the perfect place to let your cares evaporate (in style).

The quintessential New England summer experience. Beautiful and clean island. Lots of cute shops around the Main Street. Everything is quite pricy during summer season.

Nantucket is a fun day trip from Cape Cod - only one hour from Hyannis by high speed ferry. Great bike trails, fun shopping and plenty of historic sites!

We really enjoyed our time on Nantucket. It is a beautiful island that's bit smaller than the Vinyard. Lots of shopping downtown and nice bike trails throughout.

Nantucket is the cutest beach town ever. Pricey, but so much fun. Great swimmable beaches. The height of preppy outfits and people here. Great food and beautiful classic nantucket architecture.

Nantucket is a beautiful island roughly thirty miles south of Cape Cod. It has a population of about ten thousand that swells to fifty thousand during the summer tourist season.

Sea- and scene-loving urbanites descend on Nantucket, which has plenty of swanky retailers and restaurants as well as old-time traditions. But outside of town, the island's windblown, starkly beautiful dunes and moors still have the power to make you feel far removed. Bring your picnic lunch to Great Point beach.

Where to Stay: Wade Cottages, a 1920s estate in ’Sconset with cottages and five apartments for rent.

Grab the ferry and head to Nantucket for relaxing seaside reprieve. I must admit I did not have a huge itinerary and basically drove around to see beaches, homes, and lighthouses. More over this is one of my few trips where food was a little more of a primary focus. I had lots of delish stuff from the pearl, boarding house, the galley, and corazon to name a few...gained a few pounds but totally worth it.

stay away during summer, too crowded but off season, best time to enjoy the Cape & the Islands.

Love Nantucket. Best time to go is in September, all the tourists are gone and you can get cheaper hotel rates and reservations at the more popular restaurants.
