One of Italy’s most fascinating cities, Naples is full of convolutions and contradictions, of beauty and danger lurking in the same alleyway. Any Italian on or off the peninsula will testify to the religious quality of the pizza, mozzarella, and pastries (sfogliatella and pastiera are both must-tries). In fact, the food is bordering on the divine ... Read more
and just may bring a tear to the foodie’s eye. Just don’t try driving to find that amazing restaurant the concierge mentioned, since the traffic is some of the most chaotic in Italy. While you’re at it, leave your bling at home and keep your wits about you, as petty crime is unfortunately rather widespread. Yet the beauty of the centro storico (city center), designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the blue waters of the bay, from which you can ferry to Capri or Ischia, and the smoking volcano Mount Vesuvius on the skyline make Naples a magical place. Just out of the city is the incredibly well-preserved Herculaneum and the more-famous Pompeii. It may have been founded by the Greeks, but Naples is a sweaty, sexy, wild land set to the soundtrack of musica popolare (traditional folk music), an Italian icon of a city if ever there was one.

misunderstood culture. Summer (July and August) can be unbearable, not only because of the inflated tourist crowds, but also because of the sweltering heat. Also keep in mind that August is Europe’s vacation month, and Naples is no exception: many locals tend to take their vacation during this time of the year, meaning that restaurants and shops close down.

Napoli is nice city, but for people that come from clean countries they can see and find Napoli as very unclean city, but its like napolitans tradition.People are very nice and polite. At night maybe its not so safe to walk around.Definitely people should try pizza napolitana which is the best one.

We all know that Naples the pizza heaven BUT there’s more to Naples than the classic Pizza Margherita. There are loads of street food to try. I cant even remember their names but they were amazing! The view of the whole city of naples from is just beautiful. I will definetly come back. Just be careful with your valuables.:)

Naples is the major transport to get to the Amalfi coast. You can hire a car and drive, although the zigzag roads to the coast can leave you feeling dizzy. You could hire a taxi to take you straight from the airport. Depending on traffic, the journey can take up to 2 hours.

It is interesting reading the reviews that others have written. I guess this city needs to grow on you. I found it to be dirty, crowded and filled with crazy drivers. I admit that the food was pretty great, but getting ripped off by a B&B and then fending off a pickpocket put a bit of a damper on our excursion.

I only spent three nights in Naples and it was not nearly enough. The city seems to provoke extreme reactions from people. Some find it chaotic and dirty, but I found it characterful and authentic. I am definitely planning to return to explore more.

An authentic, gritty, and beautiful city that should be included on any trip to Italy. It took me a few time going to Italy before I reached Naples, but it is one of the highlights, much different feeling than the cities in the north.

Naples is definitely my favorite city with its lively and mystic character. The city overflows with culture, italian cuisine and small alleys :-) Go here if you want to visit the real authentic Italy. It's rough, dirty, noisy yet absolutely beautiful.

Naples is one of the most charming places in Italy. I actually got a mixed feeling from this place, but after all, it was good to be in such a colourful place. Naples is still quite authentic. Small and old streets with laundry hanging, cobble stone streets with vespa passing, and streets full of street vendors.... and not to mention I had the best pizza in the world - the origin place of Pizza. I would love to explore more of this region.
