Outdoor market with many things you can buy, located downtown Nassau. Frequented by many cruise travelers and vacationers.

Talk about a culture shock, it definitely was one for me. But after a few minutes of walking around, I felt right at home in the tourist trap and haggled some good prices for the typical tourist trinkets and handmade jewelry.

I would recommend the straw market for getting little souvenirs and you can bargain with the people about prices.

Red Bay Straw Market - Caption Henry Morgen's Cove at the Bluff - Nicholl's Town for local food - Lowe Sound for Conch Salad & Cracked Conch.
Pleasant Harbour for the best beach on Andros - Wade fishing of the beach - Snorkeling on our many reefs - Fly-fishing the Joulter Cays for those big Bonefish, Tarpon & Permit. North Andros has it all for you to enjoy.

A collection of stalls selling crafts, shirts, and other souvenir type goods. It’s located right by where giant cruise ships dock everyday, so the place could get crowded.

- Most items don’t have price tag on them, so you’ll have to ask and bargain. Here is an example: For a pair of coconut shell craft, the seller asked for two for $15. After I was thinking about it, the price went down to $10, then she asked me to name a price. I said $5 for both, and she said $7. It ended up with $6. We probably could have negotiated down more as it was end of the day, but it was already cheap enough, and we felt the price was fair enough…

- Most stalls sell similar if not identical items, so do comparison shop. Don’t buy at the first stall!

- On the side of the building outside, there are several wood carvers working on making those items. You can ask them to create custom items.

Straw Market is the bazaar of Bahamas. Great place to go to escape the shops in the area with familiar brands and check out some authentic Bahamian goods made and sold by Bahamians.

The Straw Market in Nassau is where most people go to do their best haggling for souvenirs... and get their hair braided. The market vendors are pushy, everyone wants you to buy from them and they'll keep throwing prices at you until you either buy or manage to flea. It is a great place to find good deals on souvenirs, though.

If you like bargaining, this is the place you want to go.
They say that you should try to negotiate the price down to half of their initial price quote. One pro-tip is, you should know what you want and try not to come back a 2nd time, otherwise, they know they've got you and won't offer you a lower deal.

It's fun just to browse around this market, but the items do get repetitive. You'll see the same wooden dolphin and straw hat many, many times.

The straw market at Cable Beach has a lot to offer, although it is a Mini market compared to the down-town Market.
For the ladies, you can get your hair braided if you like, and you can purchase Bahamian made products, like straw basket, hand bracelets, key chains, earrings & necklaces, hand bags, clothing etc. The ladies there are very friendly!!!

I was hoping for something a little different - this is just a bunch of stalls selling junky trinkets to cruise ship passengers.

This place is not for everyone. It used to brick building on the main drive but it burned down in 2001. Now it is a Huge tent where ALL the local's gather and sell goods and wood crafts. It is a CASH only place, and bardering is highly recomended..

A visit to the Straw Market is required if you visit the Bahamas. Be prepared to haggle-it's expected.

If you're looking for affordable souvenirs or crafts, this is the place to go to in Nassau. If you're not, it's still an interesting maze of local vendors. If you're remotely interested in picking something up, definitely check out the Straw Market.

This vibrant, mostly open air, market is formed with several stalls selling a variety of souvenirs including woodcarvings, masks, statues, jewelry, sea shells and straw crafts — straw-woven is the key component of the Bahamian craft. The market is popular among travelers, and it is customary for shoppers to haggle over every purchase.
