The Roosevelt is a beautiful hotel in a location that couldn't be much better. We actually stayed there the same time as the Boston Celtics, so if it is good enough for a group of multi-millionaires...

This is place is undoubtedly overpriced, but what do you expect when you are booking a hotel in downtown New Orleans that's popular with business travelers with big fat expense accounts? The building is pretty neat and historic inside and out, and the lobby is lovely. There are a couple of very nice bars on property that offer decent daily happy hour specials, and there's also a restaurant but don't be THAT guy who eats at the hotel -- there are fantastic restaurants literally steps away from the front door.

My room was clean but old, but I kind of liked that creaky / haunted-esque ambience (it IS New Orleans, after all)! The old timey brass-doored elevators are a little creepy. The bed was comfy and the room was appropriately furnished, and I appreciated the plush robes that were in the closet. As a gold Hilton HHonors member I was upgraded to a big room with a large sitting area and a separate bedroom. The bathroom was unusually tiny for a room like that, and the floors were polished marble and were DANGEROUSLY SLIPPERY! Seriously, I had to put towels all over the floor so I wouldn't fall and break something. I was happy the air conditioning worked well because it was so hot and humid outside during the sweltering summer. I loved having valet parking and a doorman to greet me every time I left or arrived at the property (you'll pay for this service, but it was still nice).

There are several convenience stores, restaurants and shops right next door and it's a five minute walk to the nearest streetcar station. A few blocks over is Bourbon Street, another easy walk (unless you've been chugging back those giant hurricane drinks). Note that some people may feel uncomfortable walking around the area, especially at night -- but any experienced traveler or anyone from a big city won't have an issue. Remember that this is an urban hotel that's in the heart of downtown.

I attended a few Christmas Parties here and stayed here a couple of times over the years. Really pricey and very clean.

Fancy hotel with many connected bars in the same building. This place seems to get rented out often for events since it sits square in thee middle of the action on Bourbon Street. The lobby had many fancy chairs which was where my tour group ended up gathering around and telling stories. From what we heard, there were many ghost stories to be told about this place and its rooms. Walking into here did not feel very Boubon Street at all. It was like a whole different world.

The rooms are not very large, but they are very comfortable. The hotel lobby is unbelievable, and the sazerac's served at the bar by the same name are worthy of mention. Stay here if you want to enjoy luxury in the heart of everything. The staff goes above and beyond.

While it has changed names, owners, and designs over its 120 years, this hotel still leaves quite the imprint on New Orleans’ façade. When The Roosevelt reopened in 2009 after renovations prompted by Hurricane Katrina, it also welcomed renowned Chef John Besh’s Dominica restaurant into the fold. Serving authentic Italian pizzas, pastas, and sodas (try the Aranciata Rossa, blood orange soda), the place keeps a homey, warm, and welcoming feel to one and all. Also, be sure to stop in at The Sazerac Bar where America’s first cocktail – and the official cocktail of New Orleans – all three of the same name, was invented. It’s also where former Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long took up residence and held many a political meeting off the books with a Ramos Gin Fizz in hand.

The Roosevelt is beautiful. It's also home to the Sazerac bar, as historic as it is storied. When Huey Long couldn't get a satisfactory Ramos Gin Fizz in New York, he had the Roosevelt send the head bartender to teach Manhattan how to mix his favorite cocktail. The Sazerac has been setting the standard ever since. For even more fun, John Besh restaurant Domenica is situated within the hotel. Happy hour boasts half-price pizzas, wines by the glass, and other fine surprises.

Put some money in Huey Long's infamous bribe box, enjoy the real Sazerac, or get lost in the beauty of the Blue Room. The Roosevelt Hotel posses all the old South charm you expect in a New Orleans Hotel. (And if you happen to come during December, the lobby decorations will take your breath away.)

When I first walked into The Roosevelt, I had deja vu: the lobby of this Art Deco beauty looks so much like lobby of The Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. (Well, it IS, after all, a W.A. hotel.) Glittering with mirrors and chandeliers, The Roosevelt combines the old and new to stunning effect. I love that Domenica Italian Restaurant, just to your left as you walk in, is an uber-modern looking restaurant (with arguably the best pizza/happy hour in the city). And it's celeb chef John Besh's baby. But what about the rooms? Immaculate, unfussy, with a pristine bathroom. And if you want a nightcap and don't want to walk a few blocks to the Quarter? The Sazerac Bar (in addition to being beautiful, dark, clubby, and filled with Art Deco murals) boasts the best Sazerac cocktail in the city, according to a friend who is a NOLA culinary historian. Seriously, this place has everything, including the only Guerlain spa outside of NYC in the US!
