great care with every dish, Half King places a premium on quality by bringing a unique flare to traditional Irish and pub fare. The building itself is an impressive work. The entire structure was built from wood salvaged out of a 200 year old barn. With a 30 foot bar, intimate lounge and quiet back garden, finding your favorite spot is a cinch.

This bar is owned by Sebatian Junger, journalist and author of The Perfect Storm, and has become famous for its Monday reading series, where they bring in authors to discuss their recent work. I was lured here by Gogobot to come see Sebastian and Phil Zabriskie (author of The Kill Switch) talk about Life After Combat. The place was packed, and it was awesome to be able to enjoy a beer while enriching your mind. The space is cozy. I just had beer, but the food looked tasty.

Literary pub with draft and bottled beer, mostly craft varieties. Guest writers. Are booked to talk and give q&a sesdions. We heard a funny Naveed Jamali (How to Catch a Russian Spy) and the room was packed with 40 or so interested locals. Several rooms, outdoor seating. Makes a great stop while walking The High Line, with steps and elevator back up to it.

Although the Half King is better known as a happy hour bar, it serves breakfast and lunch daily until 4pm. Located right in the heart of the gallery district, it’s very quiet in the hours before the drink specials begin. If you have a few minutes to kill after you pay your bill, walk up to the High Line, which hoovers over the back garden of the restaurant.
