This is a local chain throughout NYC and one of the best. Naturally, their meatballs are incredible. And the drinks are even better. If you have a large party, you can literally order a bucket of meatballs for the table and they are delicious!

I’ve had this place twice and didn’t like it either time. It’s a nice idea to be able to create your own entree, but I have yet to have been pleased with my dish. I wouldn’t go to the Meatball Shop again.

DELICIOUS. A different way to order gives you the ability to personalize your meals and get exactly what you want.

what's a good breakfast food? Meatballs. lunch? Meatballs. brunch? Meatballs. dinner? Meatballs. snack? Meatballs.

Best meat balls I ever had!

I came here after around one am...well that is about the time i start getting hunger....i don't know what i was going to get from here but i know for sure something with meat balls in it....i got the kitchen sink and the meatball burger....the kitchen sink was delish! cooked with pork and spicy seasons toped with mushroom gravy loaded with different types of greens.... and they had a salad that looked like a mountain they call it....which is a mixture of greens....seasoned with light Italian dressing.....then they add lemon juice, garlic....olive oil....salt and pepper to taste....and the beef burger meatballs were pretty also served with a toss salad on the side...love the variety of mixed green they served you instead of fries...and it tasted way better then fries...and I'm not a person that prefers salad over some good fries... Don't turn away from this place when you walk by...this place opens till two am so its great for late night munchies....it was the first time I had this stuff...and it was delicious...i also got a whiskey root beer float since i was carving alcohol...this really satisfied me... They have a great selection of wine and drinks ....just ask.... after your done with your meal why not order a couple of drinks ....who cares lol.

This place is amazing! It is small so great for small groups or you can sit at the bar if you are eating by yourself or with someone else. The meatballs are always delicious no matter what type you choose or topping. Love the menus and markers ... You are in control and choose what you want! The finale is grand - make your own ice cream cookie sandwich ... Yum yum.

Surprisingly filling & delicious. However it can get pricey fairly quick. I suggest everyone to try out this place at least once but I do not see myself going out my way to eat here.

Been hearing about this place for years. Glad I came. The atmosphere is much cooler than I was picturing - they have a full bar with several good beers on tap, music is loud and alternative, and it's dark with candle lit tables and exposed brick walls. They have a laminated menu, and you make with a marker what you want - beef, spicy pork, chicken meatballs, and what kind of sauce. Then you can get the meatballs on pasta, in a sandwich, etc. I got the "naked balls" since it was on the top of the menu - literally a bowl of 4 meatballs on sauce with some focaccia on the side. I thought it was good, but not life changing good. I think I would have been happier with the sandwich or the pasta. But overall it was fun and not pricey - would definitely come again.

Average food. Average atmosphere. Just ok. Nothing special. The meatballs are ok.. But drinks and dessert a disaster.

Omg meatballs. Seriously amazing. The real magic here is their specialty sauces, which make a somewhat humdrum food item magical.

One of my favorite spots for a late-night bite to eat when out and about in the LES. So yummy and so affordable. The classic meatballs are just perfect. Try to get a seat at the bar if it's crowded, and skip the wait.

Big juicy tasty meatballs served multiple styles in a 1930s restaurant setting with the air filled with old school hip hop melodies?? Yes please!! After reading Travel & Leisure's review on "Gogobot", I had to experience the art of meatball perfection for myself. As you walk in the door, the restaurant resembles a social eating establishment from the 1930s with old photography covering the walls and decor from an era when vegetarians were an assumed myth and the Meatpacking district in Manhattan was bustling with great meat carvings. The menu is like a game, called "Build-a-Dish". Pick your own meatball type, the sauce for the meatballs to be smothered in, and the side to complete the dish. Afterward dinner, "Build-a-Ice Cream Sandwich". No need to explain.

This meatball-centric spot has six locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn serving five different types of house-ground balls, basically any way you like: naked, sauced, on a roll, on pasta, and so on. Purists should make for the original Lower East Side location and order the classic beef with classic tomato sauce. We’re also fans of the spicy pork balls, which pair well with spicy meat sauce—and of the Chelsea outpost, which sits above Underballs, a subterranean drinkery that lets you mix and match your own cocktails with indie spirits like Brooklyn Republic vodka.

Meatballs were eh. A little overhyped for me, but it did go well with the mashed potatoes! I enjoyed the pesto meatballs.

You have to get the ice cream sandwich. You're able to choose any flavor ice cream and cookie. I got coffee ice cream with chocolate chip cookie - classic!

These places more then live up to the hype and Thank The Lord they now have a I believe three in NYC and one in Willamsburg...which is my favorite. Check their website to see the rotating special balls and sides. The Pizza Ball meatballs are amazing. Of special note...as delish as these balls are...their ice cream sandwiches are as good. You can pick two different cookies...

While I was wandering around the Lower East Side I noticed all of these people around The Meatball Shop.
Next Day I wanted to find out what it was all about.
I never thought I would actually go someplace to eat meatballs but it is that good!
One more reason to hang on the East Side!

I think my friend and I waited over an hour to get a table here, but it was well worth it. The meatballs were awesome, the menu style is fun and unique. It is PACKED though, so be prepared to eat in close quarters at mostly picnic style seating tables. Grab a drink at Epstein Bar next door while you wait.

A quaint yet hip (weird combo, right?) eatery, this place is known not only for its meatballs but also for its ice cream sandwiches. The meatballs are best eaten "naked" (i.e. alone, and unadorned). The ice-cream sandwiches, probably best to eat it with a fork because they are GIGANTIC.

It gets pretty crowded around lunchtime, especially on weekends, but it's worth it for the ice cream sandwiches. The ice-cream is homemade, and so are the cookies! I'd recommend caramel ice cream with gingersnap cookies. The chunks of ginger provide a bit of heat that goes really well with the sweet, creamy caramel.

For a hearty yet fresh meal, try the "Everything but the Kitchen Sink Salad." You get three meatballs on top of a bed of arugula and whatever's fresh that day. Last time I went, I got picked radishes, beets and coucous. So delicious and refreshing!

Great place - I think my friend and I lucked out: We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch around 1:30, and while there were diners, it was not packed, and we had no wait at all. The decor is an interesting mix of skater culture and meat grinders, and the menus are laminated - they give you dry erase pens to check off boxes on the menu. I got the "Naked balls," actually, the naked balls special of the day - Moroccan chicken with a yogurt sauce, with a side of the roasted vegetable of the day - eggplant. My friend got the classic beef with mushroom gravy and a side of steamed spinach. They also have spicy pork and veggie balls. It was all delicious, and just the right size, in terms of portions, though I did take home 2/3 of the eggplant because I wanted to save room for a heavenly dessert: Ice cream sandwiches on cookies! The best part? YOU CAN GET TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF COOKIES! I got one chocolate chip and one brownie walnut, with espresso ice cream in the middle. My friend got the same cookie combo, but with brown sugar ice cream (I have to admit, that while mine was good, the brown sugar ice cream tasted just divine ). Oh, and I had the lemonade of the day - pluot (that's a hybrid of a plum and an apricot) lemonade to wash it all down with. They have a limited menu of quality local alcohol, but I didn't really have a taste for it that day. The service was quick without being pushy. All in all, a really delightful experience.

The Meatball Shop is one of my favorite places I've eaten in NY. The food is pretty inexpensive and very, very delicious. My favorite are the naked balls with parmesan cream sauce. For me, the hero is a little too bready. Also, they have some of the best ice cream sandwiches I've ever had (and a little tip, you can get a different flavor cookie on the top and bottom!).
