A classic in NYC - men and women in white coats serve delicious lox, cream cheese, and other delicious Jewish deli (probably not the right term) items. This location is a store - suggest checking out their cafe as well

I arrived one Sunday morning 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a line. It still took 20 minutes to get waited on and another 20 minutes to make my bagel. It was great but not worth the time or money.

Overall, this is a great place to get a bagel. 3.7 stars

Service - Friendly and helpful with menu selection

Food:
Classic Smoked Salmon board -smoked salmon, tomatoes, sliced red onions, capers, and cream cheese - it came out deconstructed on a platter. It was enough to share for two people. Rating: 3.5 / 5.
$16
Potato latkes - two nicely sized potato pancakes. They came out crispy golden brown.
Wild Salmon Roe & Creme Fraiche $14 Rating: 3.5/5.

This place has been around since 1914. Over 100 years serving lox and cream cheese and caviar.

Overall, I would recommend this place.

This beloved institution is going on four generations, and counting. It’s where it all started! The soul of NYC: perfect, savory smoked salmon lying gleefully across a serious bagel. If you love smoked fish, have the hots for herring, understand the perfect smear, have a healthy hunger for Eastern European Jewish cuisine—this is your spot.

Plus, it’s one of the last of its kind. You can find every kind of smoked and cured fish, caviar, whitefish salad, bagels and bialys, handmade chocolates, dried fruit, halvah galore. These guys know what they’re doing…they’ve been at it since 1914.

PS a bagel with a smear and perfectly smoky, just-strong-enough nova is a mighty effective hangover cure.

This family-owned Lower East Side establishment is a New York institution. A mecca of smoked fish and caviar, land of shmears and salads, this Old World boutique practically invented the NY icon of bagel and lox. An “appetizing store” opened in 1914 catering to Jewish immigrants in the LES, Russ & Daughters is a historical food landmark that remains largely unchanged and continues to sell such traditional items as pickled herring, bialys, and rugelach. This family affair has recently extended its emporium to include a café. The Russ & Daughters Café echoes the sentiments and aesthetics of the store located three blocks away, and provides a sit-down experience when take-away is not enough.

Delicious Lox and a awesome variety of cream cheeses. However I liked the Konditori bagels better. Great for a late lunch or snack specially if you are staying at the Sixty LES. It is just next to the hotel.

The best Jewish appetizing in the city...this translates to the place to get your bagel and lox and or variety of cream cheeses. There are no tables, so you take this to go. The horseradish cream cheese is amazing. I love the old school salty Belly Lox. They also tithed me onto a smoked salmon from New Zealand recently

A classic spanning generations, Russ & Daughters is probably New York's holy grail for bagels. As long as you have the patience to wait on the long lines (space is limited inside), you're in it for some heavenly bagels. FYI, bagels are pricy but can also be considered a generous meal.

LOX FOR DAYS! Everything bagel with lox. I don't think its worth 13 bucks though, but a must try when you're in NY and a bagel lover.

Classic w egg bagel, plain cream cheese. I mean, this is what I came to NY for, the bagels and Jewish deli goodness. Unfortunately, the classic didn't quite blow me away, but it was still tasty nonetheless. Might have helped if the bagel was better, but I get that over at Essabagel.

Glad to say I've tried the lox here, but probably won't be back.

This appetizing store is a NYC staple. A great stop when visiting NYC to see the large variety of smoked fish, chocolate covered candies and more.

Smoked salmon heaven. The line can be long (grab a number immediately upon entering), but a lot of people leave when they find out they have to wait so sometimes they'll zoom through a bunch of numbers. Nova cold smoked salmon, caviar, cream cheese, bagels, herrings and cheeses...I'm now ruined on all other smoked salmon, because I've now experienced the best there is.

Try a classic bagel sandwich that comes with Scottish smoked salmon, cream cheese, and red onion on a poppy-seed bagel at this Lower East Side institution.

One of the best places in NYC to get traditional jewish "appetizing" They have a a beautiful selection of smoked fish (at least 8 different varieties of smoked salmon ranging from intensely smoked to traditional belly lox to kippered salmon). Also excellent selection of cream cheeses, roe and other smoked fish (sable, sturgeon, chubs, whitefish salad, etc). Best quality and service. Take the fish to go or have them build you a sandwich. Not sure where they get their bagels but they are not my favorite.

Family run business dating back to 1914, they specialize in caviar, smoked fish, herring, bagels and elegant food gifts. Come and get some snacks to go, or to build up your dinner offerings. Russ and Daughters also offers catering services, if you are interested in that.

Like a candy shop filled with smoked fish and caviar! There's a wide selection of fish and caviar here, tourists and locals alike come in. Things can get cramped inside, so grab a number quick. I like to pick up some traditional lox, caviar, and a babka. I believe Greens makes their babkas, which in my opinion are the best in the city!
