Fentons is both a local favorite AND destination spot for fountain ice cream treats!

Fenton's is synonymous to Oakland for me. I have been going since childhood and try to return at least a few times a year. The hardest decision to make is which ice cream treat as they are all good. The meal is a no-brainer -- their crab sandwich is to die for.

If you love ice cream this is your place! Great selection and inventive menu of ice cream creations to eat in or take out. The food was also great - we had the shrimp po'boy. Lots of big crispy shrimp on a grilled roll with tasty slaw and remoulade. Service is quick and friendly and you can tell everyone works as a team. Nice patio seating outside to people watch.

My favorite old time creamery. The place has been made famous by Disney Pixar's Up, where they sit outside and count the red and blue cars. But the ice cream at this place is delicious and they have classic "American Sized" servings. If you ever want a good challenge, they have a giant shareable sundae that if you can eat by yourself in under 30 min it's free. (would not recommend that....

It is ok. Ice cream is pretty good but not great. It is normal very loud and sometimes there is a wait. But it is very good for large groups.

Awesome throwback ice cream parlor. So much ice cream in a retro diner style interior. The cookie crumble was incredible!

People have come from far away to eat at Fenton's since 1894. There is only one of these premium creameries in the Bay Area and it's so popular I have never seen it without a line out the door.
Fenton's is not only a creamery, behind the delicious ice cream cones and sundaes there is a sense of community you can only experience by being there. The location on Piedmont Ave is a bonus, you can get a cone and take a stroll along this lovely neighborhood, full of small businesses, restaurants, a knitting club, vintage shops and more. Make sure you try the classic Black & Tan, with toasted almonds and homemade caramel.

I have a long list of desserts places to try, and I finally knocked this one off of my list. Fenton does serve savory food items such as salads and burgers, but I came here for the ice cream. There was so much to choose from, it took me 10 minutes to decide since all the sundaes sounded so tasty. I finally decided on the Fudgeanna. I would say the sundae is large enough for at least two people to share. I barely finished it on my own! A must try place for those who love ice cream and need to feed your sweet tooth.

Classic ice cream parlor on Piedmont Ave in Oakland. Very nostalgic and was even included in last scenes of Pixar's Up.

Ice cream here is very subpar. I never knew what the the hype was about Fenton's but I guess for a college student is a pretty good choice to host birthday parties.

The food is also really greasy and large portions.

I'd say come here more for the Fenton's challenge to get the t-shirt. That's probably the most exciting part coming to Fenton's.

I was just here a couple of weeks ago with one of my old best friends from when I used to live and there and it brought back so many memories. We used to go there all the time for the delicious banana splits. Apart from their banana splits they have a great variety of ice cream, from rocky road to raspberry sorbet. It's a fun place for friends and family ,especially kids. I do recommend the food(their burgers are really good) So if you're going to Fentons remember to order a large banana split to share. Their 50's atmosphere makes it even more fun to hang out and service is excellent, and being located on Piedmont you can just take a walk afterwards.

As a kid, going to Fenton's to me was like going to Disneyland. It's always more ice cream than I can actually eat and I'm totally okay with that. Even as an adult it is still exciting to make a trip to Fenton's to share a sundae with a friend, a sister or a boyfriend.

Came here with Anton on Friday for a spontaneous ice cream craving. Decided to go here after all the raving and hype about this place. We ordered the Fentons Special Sundae which was good and creamy. However, I did not find the ice cream to be spectacle and did not get the feeling I would go out of my way again to come back here. Overall, it was a one time experience kind of place for me.

Downside to this place is finding parking, very crowded and hard to find parking. We were lucky to find a spot as the customer was coming out. Also, their customer service was semi a little bit slow and they took quite awhile to bring our food out.

Old school ice cream parlor serving up ice cream sundaes and diner style comfort food. Eat in with waiter service or grab an ice cream to-go (shortest wait if crowded).

Limitless flavors - when in doubt, try their rocky road.
Huge sundaes - pick from the menu or create your own.
Thick and creamy ice cream - just how I like it.

Parking available in adjacent lot for free or street parking.

Recommended for the ice cream lover, families, and couples.

Fenton's has been popularized ever since it was featured in the movie UP, but on its own I still consider it a great place to grab a classic ice cream sundae. This place is different than most places in the Bay Area because it's not trying to be "artisan" or crazy. It's more like a classic ice cream shop and diner. They sell savory food, but I don't know anyone who regularly orders it. I love splitting a sundae with a group. A regular size will generously feed three. Boyfriend and I normally split a junior sundae. They're kind of pricey at $10 for a regular and $7 for a junior, but with all the fixings piled on top and dripping onto the plate, I feel like it's worth it. The quality of ice cream is solid and the combinations of flavors and toppings are seemingly endless. Definitely worth a visit.

Fentons is a traditional and classic diner that still exists today in Oakland. It's a great place for kids and adults to enjoy a family friendly atmosphere, with menu options like classic burgers, fries, and a shake. It gets noisy and crowded as there's always someone celebrating a special occasion. The staff always seem to be upbeat and cheerful to the patrons.

Yes it's a bit pricy and it's usually too crowded for my tastes. However, my son loves it and the ice cream treats are hard to beat. Plus it's great going into a place with so much family and community energy. We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so!

If you watched "100 of America's Greatest Pig-Outs" on the Food Network then you'll remember that Fenton's was #4! They showed their popular Black & Tan and Banana Split sundaes so of coarse we came for the sundaes and wow they were HUGE!!! They also serve diner style foods if you're hungry. I opted for the Junior Black & Tan sundae for $8.50 and I still could only eat half! Yuuummmm...one scoop Toasted Almond and one scoop Vanilla ice cream with home made caramel and fudge, topped with toasted almonds, whip cream, and a cherry! Something like that sounds decedent, but it wasn't overly sweet because the almonds complemented the richness of the chocolate. We also had the Banana Walnut which didn't seem to hit the spot like the Black & Tan. It tasted more like banana candy than fresh bananas. Great stop on a sunny day if you're in the area! And if you're a Pixar lover like me, you'll appreciate Russell's reference to Fentons in the movie "Up".

Old fashioned ice cream place. It's been around for awhile, but it is actually too sweet for my taste. Would prefer bi-rite any day.
