Local from Oaxaca De Juarez, Mexico

Hotel Casa Cue is a good choice for those who want to be at the center of the action – and by action, I mean markets. Guests push past street vendors hawking chilis, tlayudas (large grilled quesadillas), fried grasshoppers, scarves and paintings to get to the hotel, meaning that food and shopping are mere steps away. The hotel is across the street from the Plaza Aldama crafts market, kitty corner from the Benito Juarez market and only half a block from the 20 de Noviembre market. The hotel boasts art deco furnishings accented with nature and indigenous paintings, as well as a sunny courtyard, a meeting or banquet room, a rooftop terrace and plush seating around the lobby. The room I saw was clean and spacious, with two double beds (all the rooms have two double beds), a love seat, coffee table, dresser, TV, desk and closet. Be careful not to slip on the polished tiled floors and stairways.

Casa Cue has pleasantly spacious rooms, which are a necessity after a day navigating the cramped markets and streets that surround the hotel. This place is right in the thick of things, just a short walk from Oaxaca's zócalo, or town square, and across the street from the bustling Benito Juarez and 20 de Noviembre markets. Casa Cue is in one of the few Art Deco buildings you'll find in Oaxaca. Once you get past the dim lobby, the hotel has a nice, airy courtyard, big, clean rooms and a rooftop terrace that nearly -- but not quite -- lets you escape the din below. The prices are not quite as low as one would expect in this neighborhood, and the dour desk clerk didn't speak English. Casa Cue is acceptable and conveniently located, but Oaxaca has nicer places that are better deals.
