Umeda is an interesting district in Osaka and likely the first place you'll see as it's the main transportation hub for all of the buses and trains into the city. Surrounding the Umeda Station is plenty of shopping and eateries, including the awesome Hep 5 Mall. Be sure to explore all of the underground shops as well, it's pretty amazing how far these tunnels spread throughout the city.

This is a great area for shopping and as a transportation hub for several different train lines.

The Umeda district of Osaka is the railway transit hub, department store center, and hotel row for Osaka.

Here, several railways meet, including the Hanshin and Hankyu lines, and these rail systems have corresponding department stores of the same namesake, like the Hanshin and Hankyu department stores, amount others.

This is the central downtown area, and it is very popular because of all the nearby amenities. Much new construction has been centered here with dramatic architecture, like the Umeda Sky building, and international hotels like the Hilton and Ritz-Carlton are located here.

Also centered here are massive underground cities jet beneath you, where you an find stores, shops, restaurants, even McDonald's, all in a floor or two below street level, and you can wander for blocks without ever seeing sunlight.
