Ouray is a former mining town with a real Old West feel to it. It's a laidback place and if glamorous shops and hotels are a priority, you'd probably be better off staying in nearby Telluride.

However, the town has significant charms: not for nothing is it nicknamed the "Switzerland of America". The Rocky Mountain scenery is spectacular and attractions include hot springs, hiking and mountain-biking. Perhaps most notably, Ouray is considered one of the best ice-climbing places in the around and is extremely popular with both beginners and skilled practitioners.

Cute, cute little town tucked in the mountains which resembles a little town in the Swiss Alps. Amazing scenery and fun litte main street.

A picturesque little town I passed while on my way from Silverton to Telluride.
This town is small and is famous for their Hot Springs.
There is only a handfull of place to stay so book early and dining options are limited as well.

Ouray is a very quaint town tucked into the mountains. It was a big silver mining area in the 1800's but now boasts world-class ice climbing. It's not a ski town feel-much more a small town with hot springs and vapor caves too!

The town of Ouray, surrounded on three sides by mountains, provided the inspiration for Galt's Gulch in Ayn Rand's novel, "Atlas Shrugged." This idyllic former mining town has many of its original building, hot springs and a popularity with thrill seekers. Visitors often go offroading, ice climbing or just for a cruise down the Million Dollar Highway.

I love Ouray, mountains are great, shops, restaurants and hotels are very nice and typical. We slept here only one night but it was just like going back in the past. There are also hot springs where to get relaxed.

Sweet little restored mining town nestled in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado. Great hiking, biking and ice climbing in the winter. Don't miss the hot springs soak away your cares after your exciting outdoor adventures. Cute shops and memorabilia. Not a stunning array of restaurants but all are decent and pretty reasonable value.
The pass out of town to the south (Red Mountain) toward Silverton is not for the faint of heart and should be approached with caution in bad weather and the dark
