So, so fun! Great restaurants such as Spencer's at the Tennis Club, sit on the patio, The Farm, you feel like your in Paris, Las Casuelas, amazing ambiance and Mexican food, The Purple Palm, a boutique hotel in the movie colony or La Vallauris, an old PS favorite, a french restaurant that has stayed strong for over 50 years. Sit on the patio. Shopping galore, Palm Springs ambiance at its best! A must day excursion!

There's a lot of cute clothing shops, restaurants, bars, and a couple of candy stores. It's definitely great for a casual stroll, if it's not too hot.

Downtown Palm Springs is a lot of fun to walk around in the evening, exploring the shops, grabbing a bite to eat, and definitely having dessert. The daytime is ok, if it isn't too hot.

Downtown Palm Springs is just a short drive from our house (and parking everywhere is free!). Along Palm Canyon Drive you'll find many many blocks of vibrant bustling of people and energy. There are tons of interesting shops to explore, restaurants to eat at, spots for drinks or places to stop for ice cream. It can get a bit crowded but that is part of the fun. On Thursday nights when they block the streets to traffic and open for VillageFest, with live music and street entertainment, food carts, and lots of stands set up selling everything from art and jewelry, to bread and candy. It's a fair every week!

Kinda fun for what it is. Go during the winter when the weather is mild, and that's actually the high season point. Lots of local shops and steakhouses, and on some nights, they have the car show. Over all, it's a nice thing to do during the day or early night, and can be a fun time if you're looking to just relax.

Some very tasty restaurants, but otherwise lacks soul. The Monroe statue is cool, but the walk of stars feels like a cheap imitation. Anyways, it is probably going to be too hot to talk around it.

Immortalized and cast in a 34,000 pound, 26-foot-tall statue, Sculptor Seward Johnson captured the scene from the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch” which a draft from a New York subway grate blows the iconic figures skirt well above her knees (Los Angeles Times, 2012). It was an image that shocked those in that time, and catapulted the sex symbol into the iconic sphere.

Born Norma Jean, she dreamed of being famous stating that for the first time in her life people were actually paying attention to her. A lust for fame propelled Norma Jean into the iconic inamorata public figure that Marilyn Monroe is today, and decades later, her death remains under a shroud of controversy. An American actress, model, singer and iconic sex symbol, Monroe was categorized as insecure, even misunderstood with a bombshell body and public image that exuded sensuality, and a lifestyle of wealth that young girls only dream of. Today, Marilyn Monroe has experienced resurgence in the American teenage consciousness, with young girls collecting everything Marilyn from portraits to t-shirts to the rich red lip stick she has been immortalized as wearing. Marilyn Monroe lives on, transcending death as she continues to be celebrated, after a life of fame that ended tragically August 5, 1962, at 36 years young.

I was in Palm Springs, California to pick up my niece one late night and overheard someone speakingof the iconic statue that had been shipped from Chicago, Illinois to Downtown Palm Springs. “It’s larger than life”, I overheard. “It’s simply beautiful”, was the adjectives used to describe the iconic figure. My curiosity was piqued, and I decided to make the journey for myself, as this was my first time actually stopping in Palm Springs, California, and now being able to lay eyes on the iconic figure for myself.

It was a Saturday night, approximately 1:00am.

I was surprised to see that the Palm tree lined Downtown streets were empty, save for a few stragglers milling about from the local club scene. I then spotted the massive stature, iconic in size, illuminated by nearby lights and lager than I first imagined. I parked and then slowly walked up to her to take it all in. She stood radiantly against a backdrop of the dark blue sky, accented by illuminated businesses that were placed about her like adorning fans. I then arrived where I stood by one of her massively smooth legs, dwarf by her image, and slightly embarrassed as I looked up under her dress. I know that I wouldn’t be the only one to do so.

Regardless of Marilyn Monroe’s life style and tragic ending, her stature is a work of art, worth seeing in person. To know Marilyn’s history prior to arriving would make the experience a little more intimate, sad even, as you reflect upon a life that was full, and one that ended way too soon.

Note: "Forever Marilyn" is scheduled to be on display for a short time through 2013. The removal date is tentative as negotiations are in motion to keep the statue on display indefinitely.
