area. The U.S. Government negotiated 32,000 acres of their homeland in 1876. You will notice the canyons have not lost beauty or wildlife. Bring plenty of water as you immerse in the dessert surrounded by mountains. The trails open daily from October to June. Expect to hike only during weekends from July to September. Enjoy the historic Indian Canyons and get a good workout climbing the trails.

I love these canyons,my favorite trail is Andres Canyon.
It is in an oasis and the rock formations are just awesome.
The power of the earth to move these huge slabs. Please pick up your garbage or any else you see, as sometimes the First nations get frustrated and close the canyons.

The Indian Canyons are the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. These canyons are especially sacred to the Cahuilla people today and are historically important to scientist and nature lovers. The Cahuilla people have thrived here for thousands of years. Rock art, house pits, foundations irrigation ditches, dams, reservoirs, trails and food preparation areas still exist in the canyons.

This is for history buffs and walkers/hikers! Absolutely beautiful! Canyons lined with palm oasis', and there are waterfalls to be found! The hiking can be as casual as a stroll, or a cliff climbing challenge for the hardiest back packer. This is Native American Sovereign land, so you will see indigenous workers in and around the gift shop

When I've visited, I've felt like I"m in church with the elegant tall palm trees cued up in a row. It's on Indian land, so there is an entrance fee.

Palm Canyon is a must see. It is fifteen miles long and has trails that meander through the indigenous flora and fauna and even a stream!

Drive down South Palm Canyon Drive till it ends and enter the natural beauty that is Indian Canyons. Natural areas, hiking areas, and (at the right time of year) waterfalls.

The Indian Canyons are a place of contrast. If you enjoy hiking, this is a must for you! Rangers teach about the area, while leading hikes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. See their website for admission and further delails.

Just outside of Palm Springs is a place called Indian Canyon. Legend has it that the local Native Americans would spend their time there in the summer. It is like an oasis in the desert. Water and palm trees in the middle of the canyon. Fairly easy hike from the visiter center.

Once you've gotten your share of lying around the pool, jump in your car and take a short drive to Indian Canyons, located just around the bend as you head into Palm Springs. Great place to take a hike and see some waterfalls (given the surround mountains have received some snow). See the brochure at the house, then get out and see the beauty of the local mountains.
