The Location: Metro #4, Exit "Cite", few minutes walk from the metro station. Right next to Sainte-Chapelle. The Admission: 8.5 euro This vestige of the first Capertian palace with its grand Gothic halls, converted into a prison in the 15th century. Not much to see... except the big hall. There is a gift shop there. The architecture and river view are beautiful.

During the Reign of Terror (a period of violence after the commencement of the French Revolution between 1793-1794), supposed enemies of the Revolution were imprisoned in La Conciergerie (a former palace) before awaiting trial in the neighbouring Palais de Justice. Quality of cells was determined by wealth – the well-off paid for up-grades such as private cells with their own furniture, the less fortunate were resigned to crowded living on beds of straw. Amongst the 2780 strong list of prisoners who were confined to its dungeons, famous revolutionary residents include Danton and Robespierre, and in star position, Queen Marie Antoinette, whose cell finds her sat in a dark hooded cloak before her crucifix.

Alongside Sainte Chappelle, La Conciergerie is just across the river - perfectly situated to gaze at from our windows. The Conciergerie was the first palace of the French kings. It has also been the prison of Marie Antoinette. Today you can take a tour to enjoy the stunning gothic architecture.

Where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. It's unfortunate that they charge so much fo entrance.

In spite of it's historical importance, I would skip it while touring Paris. There is no big deal there and you have to pay to visit it... Unless you have children studying French Revolution who are fascinated by Marie Antoinette and they want to visit every little place in Paris she went, I would skip it for Pere Lachaise, Les Invalides, or Pantheon, which are all filled also with history but happen to have more to see.

Located on Île de la Cité, was first the royal palace and after a prison, the place where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned.

This is an under visited building right next to the busy La Chapelle. It was where Marie Antoinette was kept imprisoned. Now it can be visited as a historical monument.

A must see.. make sure to tour the grounds outside and find the sundial/clock engraved onto the wall. Also, clearly Marie Antoinette's cell.

Historic and striking but there wasn't much to engage in. St. Chapelle nearby is much more of a crowd pleaser.

Don't miss the cell of Marie Antoinette, where she spent her last days before being sent to the guillotine. A pair of her little slippers and a hand-written note are displayed in the cell. Thick walls and 13th century Gothic architecture add to it's medieval charm. It's located on the Seine River, west of the Île de la Cité, near the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. And as long as your in the area, see if the bird market is open.

This old prison (in the time of Marie Antoinette) is not worth the visit.

The outside against is more interesting: the 2 towers and the clock at the corner of the street (which has just been renovated) are well worth lingering take some pictures: because the interior is any.
