Parma Vacations

Parma is a city in central-northern Italy. It is well known for its hams and cheeses, which are valued highly across the world. The city is mostly residential, with a small downtown the principle tourist draw. The central Piazza Duomo is home to Parma’s cathedral and baptistery, which are beautiful and worth a visit. the Glauco Lombardi Museum, which follows the life of Maria Luigia, who was the Duchess of Parma and a wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Regio Theatre, a world famous opera house. The thing to do in the city, however, is eat. Indulge in Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese in beautiful countryside settings, and top it off with Lambrusco, a local sparkling wine.

Beautiful town that is also the home of parmigiana cheese. Worth a quick stop.

Parma was a pleasant surprise! We came to eat prosciutto and Parmesan, and drink Lambrusco, but found a lively city in the largely car-free historic center. Just wander--there are lots of little gems to discover here.

Difficult to list all the museums, palaces, parks and shopping and eateries found in the capital of the once-upon-a-time Duchy of Parma. The city boast one of the best standards of living of any city in Italy and you can see it too!
