Another must-see attraction is Siak Palace in Siak regency, about two hours by car from Pekanbaru. Built in 1889 on 3.5 hectares by German architect Vande Morte, it features an ornate architectural mix of Malay, Arab and European influences. If you have more time, go visit Muara Takus, the largest and well-preserved ancient temple complex in Sumatra. Located in Muara Takus Village, Kampar district, it's about 2.5 hours away from Pekanbaru by public transportation. Built using a mix of sandstone, river rocks, and bricks, the temple is believed to date to the Sriwijaya Kingdom.
