It's hard to believe that this magnificent hotel is related to its weird cousin near the airport. These suites are beautifully put together, and they have the full kitchen, pet-friendly rooms, and full laundry facilities that extended-stay establishments are famous for. What's more, this hotel is located in the heart of Phoenix's Midtown, which is where every discerning visitor wants to be. You can't throw a stone without hitting a cool restaurant, and the entertainment options are limitless. You could spend entire days wandering around the neighborhood and still find cool stuff to do. I stumbled into people from across the country and around the world while milling around the lobby, which is just what a visitor should expect from a stay in Midtown. If I had to visit Phoenix on business, I would beg my company to send me here.

This hotel is right by Melrose, a popular nightlife district, but the area is a bit of a walk. The lobby is nice looking and the exterior looks good. The rooms come with plenty of amenities for a long-term traveler like a kitchenette and a full size fridge, but are somewhat cramped. There really isn't a separate area between the kitchen and bedroom. Business travelers on a budget or travelers looking to stay for a while would probably enjoy this spot.

If you're looking to make a temporary home for yourself in central Phoenix, the Extended Stay America in midtown should do the trick. Parking can be a little tricky, but once you find a spot, settle in and get comfortable. I was impressed by how friendly the staff was and the amount of amenities available to guests. The rooms are a little on the smaller side, but if you're in town for business, the size shouldn't be too much of an issue. Rooms have king beds, a loveseat and small kitchens with full-size fridges. I thought that was pretty cool - it's hard to hold much more than a couple of things in a mini-fridge. There is also a free grab and go breakfast with lighter fare like fruit, oatmeal, cereal and (of course), coffee. There is also a small pantry where you can buy travel essentials. The pool is really well-maintained and I was told by a staff member that it is newly resurfaced. All the rooms are non-smoking, which is nice if you're sensitive to lingering smells like I am. The location is also really good. You can easily catch the light rail to the downtown business district from here.

As the name implies, the “Extended Stay” America in Phoenix is designed to fit the needs of guests staying a bit longer than a night or two, but it would do just fine for a weekend getaway as well. Each room is more like a small apartment than a standard hotel room, and comes outfitted with a full kitchen with the works. The downside is that the kitchen eats up quite a bit of space, meaning the “bedroom” area really only has room for a bed. A touch which I thought was nice is the inclusion of a DVD player along with the HD-TV, so you can bring your own collection of movies. The Extended Stay Deluxe is just a mile down Central from two of Phoenix’s most well-known cultural attractions, the Heard and Phoenix Art Museums. As it’s just a couple blocks away from the Light Rail on Central Avenue, you won’t have to pay for parking if you want to check out a Diamondbacks or Suns game.
