A good location for the Convention Center. Easy for the light rail train as well. Very friendly staff and the rooms are nice. One unfortunate issue is the construction next door. Jack hammering and sleep are mutually exclusive.

My first experience with the Renaissance was during Phoenix Comic Con: I only walked by the front entrance, but the misters were nice in the Arizona sun.

Turns out, the rest of the hotel is pretty swanky as well. Walking into the lobby I was hit with a sense that this place is trying to appeal to a young, hip crowd – or at least the young at heart. When I visited (on a Wednesday afternoon) there was a DJ spinning next to their Icon Lounge – its tagline: “Eat. Drink. Flirt.” - and an artist doing live painting in the lobby.

The hotel is from the 70s and has a couple remnants of its past: one of the elevators seems to be original and some of the floors are currently out of service. The rest of the hotel has all been redone to meet its futuristic vibe. The rooms are spacious, clean, and welcoming. Like a few of the hotels in the area it has a rooftop pool, but it's a bit smaller than others.

The location can't be much better for those here catching a conference at the convention center or those who just want to check out the night life.

This is a classy joint. Seriously. Its location couldn’t be better when it comes to being downtown. And, Phoenix’s downtown is coming around. There are countless local bars and restaurants to explore – all within walking distance (or take the light rail). This is a Marriott hotel and from my experience, they are always top notch. At this particular gem, you can feel a sense of family among the staff members. With a smile and ‘hello’ they gave me such pleasure in, not just their demeanor, but their impeccable service and attentiveness. The lavish interior reminded me of unique sophistication. It offers business and pleasure. ICON Lounge is cool and the rooftop pool…really? And it’s heated. Can it get any better? Actually, yes. The fitness center is beautiful and filled with current equipment and there is a sauna. It’s just my idea of high-class.

I think I went to the Renaissance's bar on an off night. It wasn't busy on Saturday, but the service was awful. The waitress didn't know what scotch or root beer were, and would disappear for a half hour. We got another waiter to help us after the bartender just ignored us. With two tables seated, four servers should have plenty of time to take care of us.

The food was okay, but we waited a long time for it and when it arrived part of the order was wrong. I suspect the waitress, but the kitchen might have been slow too.

The Renaissance is the most indigenous hotel in downtown Phoenix. If you want to have a "local" experience, you can't go wrong. I enjoyed walking through the opulent lobby looking at the art work. I started to recognize parts of Phoenix in the photos. All of the artwork is local. As are the bartenders, some have been there for over 20 years! The "navigator" at the front desk recommended the Arrogant Butcher for dinner, not the commercial chain down the street. I was refreshed, local eating spots are tough to find in Phoenix. I like the masculine stylish vibe of the rooms. They are good sized and have a separated bathroom area. The rooftop pool is awesome. I love being surround by skyscrapers hanging out by a pool. The hotel is in walking distance to the convention center and sporting arenas, perfect stay to catch a concert or other events.
