baptistry is a round, Romanesque building, and the largest baptistry in Italy. Most famous within the piazza is the campanile, or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was completed in 1372 and stands at 60 meters high. The final building in this square is a walled cemetery containing a Roman sculptures and sarcophagi collection. The entire area was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. It's also known as the Piazza dei Miracoli.

The Duomo is actually much more interesting than the leaning tower, so make sure to check it out. The details on the outside are fascinating.

Love this place a hive of activity. Climb the tower and be warned it is tiring but worth it. The views over Florence are truly amazing.

One of the nicest campi in Italy. Wide open spaces with grass and lovely views of stunning architecture make it a nice place to have a picnic. Come early morning or sunset and you'll learn the definition of what the kids call "eyegasm."

As the sun crept through the rain, the square of miracles looked very nice indeed and it quickly got very busy, as it is the main attraction for Pisa as that is where the leaning tower is located.

In addition to viewing the leaning tower of Pisa, the piazza, the duomo, and the basilica should not be missed.

The Piazza dei Miracoli is the home of the leaning Tower of Pisa. Many visitors flock here to see the tower but the plaza also boasts a church. Pisa sits near the west coast of Italy.

Everyone knows that the main attraction in Pisa is the Leaning Tower, but the Duomo of Pisa is also not to be missed. It has an incredibly beautiful ceiling mosaic and features some stunning art work.

Actually its the only major tourist attraction in this city. Many visitors just stop over to see the Leaning tower and the nearby bldg. However given time, there are lots of shops and cafes around where you can just sit, laze and people watch. One day I would like to climb that tower :)

Literally the Square of Miracles. It's the World Heritage site where you'll find the Duomo, the Leaning Tower, etc.

There is so much more here than the leaning tower! The piazza is always crowded, but there are cute outdoor shops along one side to explore. But be careful where you park-you'll get a ticket very quickly.

The grassy open area around the the leaning tower, cathedral, etc, is a great place to hang out, admire the monuments and inhale the atmosphere. Best when sunny, but also nice and different when raining. I sometimes have the impression that these monuments look better from a distance, then when you visit them.

The Piazza del Duomo, next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, is a great place to hang out for a rest or a small picnic. There's much more to see than just the tower, and I don't know how these photographers got shots with nobody in them. This place was packed to the gills every time I went, and everyone was trying to get the cliché photo holding up the tower.

See it during the day, but come back at night too.

Everyone wants to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa but since I don't like heights and was not going to go up the Tower, a short visit to look at the exterior was all that was needed from my point of view.

There are so many wonderful places to see in Italy that to spend more than an hour in Pisa is plenty. You can get off the train, visit the Tower & take photos, go to a nearby trattoria & have a bowl of minestrone with a dish of garlic, basil, & freshly grated parmesan blend to kick up the flavors, and catch the next train to wherever. Time well spent.
