When the William Penn opened in 1916 it was hailed as not only the best hotel in Pittsburgh, but the grandest in the country. After a 1929 expansion it became the second largest hotel in the entire world. Visiting celebrities flocked here, and still do. If you're going to a concert or hockey game at the PPG Arena, this is the place to stay. Really, you can walk just about anywhere downtown from the William Penn. Be sure to hit The Speakeasy downstairs. It's dark and intimate, and the cocktails are right out of the hotel's 1920s heyday.

Laying in bed for the rest of the night avoiding the world and the cold...YUP! (~o~)

during my trip to Pittsburgh i stayed at the omni William penn hotel...A lot of it depends on pricing...but if you're willing to pay a little more for the downtown hotels...that's definitely where you should be....From downtown....you can walk to the cultural district...market square... the strip district...the North Shore... and it's just a mile walk to Station Square or a quick cab ride to the South Side....super convent...loved it!!!

Plus...there's tons of restaurants located near the hotel...Off the top of my head... there's the omni william penn hotel (with a great restaurant inside of it) especially for Sunday brunch!! Omni William Penn (probably Pittsburgh's best hotel)...hotel is actually rated four stars...the staff told me it would be a five star hotel if they had a pool...which made me laugh a little...

my room looks like a hurricane just rolled through every night...room service helped fix that issue quickly...service is fast and reliable...every morning call up valet and they have the car ready and heated ...love the fact i can call valet parking in my room and they bring the car out in less then ten mins...i never had that type of service in the many hotels iv stayed in...there's complementary beverages every morning when you wake up...i will say this the hotel is someone outdated...but interior of this hotel is still one of the best compared to the other hotels located around downtown...

PS: there's a Starbucks located inside the hotel!!!

The Omni William Penn is one of those hotels that has an outstanding reputation in Pittsburgh. The lobby is like an elegant step back in time! It’s supposed to be a go-to spot for a lot of high name individuals staying in the area, but it’s accessible enough for visitors looking for an upscale, luxury getaway to enjoy. The hotel has recently been renovated to give the historic feel a more “modern” touch. The rooms are lovely and just get better the higher the upgrade: suites include wet bars, kitchenettes and Jacuzzi tubs. I really liked that the room windows can be opened, which is something different and more than welcome on lovely spring days in Pittsburgh. Before you book your visit, be sure to find out what specials the Omni William Penn might be running – they always have interesting packages, from romantic additions to special “girlfriend” getaways for gal pals that want a shopping weekend in the city.

Hopefully this historic hotel has been renovated...it has charm but felt really dank inside.
