Playa del Carmen Vacations

A tropical paradise situated along the Mayan Riviera on the Yucatan Peninsula, Playa del Carmen has been quietly growing into a vacation powerhouse over the past decade. While the beaches aren't quite as perfect as the white sand in Cancun, Playa (as it's known locally) reels in visitors with its small-town, European vibe. When the jewelry stores ... Read more
and taquerias on and around Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) close, the seafood restaurants, late-night bars and dance clubs are just getting started. Sleep off the next day on the beach, dining on fish tacos or fresh coconut (your coconut vendor will often slice open the shell with his handy machete). Most people don't just come for Playa; witness the wonder of the Yucatan day trip. Nearby is the over-the-top Xcaret Eco-Park, the Disneyland of Mexican nature and archaeological preserves. Visit a sacred Mayan cemetery, swim with dolphins and buy souvenirs. Playa is near dozens of cenotes, fresh-water sinkholes filled with snorkel-worthy fish. Playa hosts everyone from spring breakers to luxury vacationers, so hostels and hotels cover every budget.

Playa del Carmen

Like most tropical regions, the Yucatan Peninsula has a wet and dry season. The region’s wet season (May to November) is hot, humid and rainy with the occasional hurricane blowing in. Despite poor weather, July ... Read more
and August are popular times for foreign and Mexican tourists to visit. However, if you’re dreaming of a sunny beach vacation, head here in the dry season (late November to February) when the weather milder and less rainy. Unfortunately, you won’t be alone on that white sand beach (especially if you’re planning a Christmas vacation: tourism peaks from mid-December to early January, which drives up prices), but at least you’ll get to bask in the sun without it raining on your parade.

This whole area was amazing, one of the best trips I had so far. Great places to eat, sight seeing, and dancing. Recommended to anyone trying to have a nice time with a little of adventure

This is the center of the party. With nightclubs, restaurants and shoppings galore.

When it gets dark, get ready for the show.
Street performers, makeshift art gallery and people from all over come here to have fun.

Definitely a must visit when in Cancun =)

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo is a coastal resort town in Mexico that lies along the Yucatán Peninsula's Riviera Maya strip of Caribbean shoreline. It is known for its palm lined beaches and coral reefs. Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) is a pedestrian walkway which runs parallel to the beach. This lively walkway has blocks of shops, restaurants and nightspots ranging from laid back bars to dance clubs. It is ideal for families and singles and everything in between.

A great town without the intensity of Cancun. Some of the best clubs anywhere, from piano bar, disco tech, eclectic show bar to a simple outdoor, on the beach hangout for s cold cerveza. You will find great shopping and fine dining too. Plays del Carmen has a fantastic variety of boutique hotels to choose from.
And luxury is found from small establishments all the way to world class resorts. A fun place where you can have a wonderful time spending a little or as much as you want. Tours to see whale sharks, see the Mayan ruins, deep sea fishing, cenotes, the nearby eco parks, snorkeling or scuba, just lots to do.
Then take the ferry to Cozumal for more fun & where you will find gold & silver jewelry to buy at great competitive prices. Wheat RR you want to chill or be thrilled, Playa del Carmen is one place you can find what you are looking for.

Very touristy of course but also quite nice to visit, there is a reason why this part of Mexico is so popular.

We picked PDC b/c it was a bit out of Cancun and we were looking for a spot that was safe yet more local. PDC was perfect, there's a main boardwalk w/ restuaurants and shopping, a nightlife, and lots of options for exploring and tours.

Seattle, Washington, USA

My first trip to Mexico and I think PDC was the perfect spot to experience it. Gorgeous beaches line the busy downtown streets that are lively and offer numerous restaurants, bars, shopping and clubs. Everything just within walking distance. There are also lots of adventures not more than a 30min drive away like the Mayan Ruins, zip lining in the forest or kayaking in rivers.
