2nd night here and the Thai restaurant that delivers was closed (strange). The front desk commented that they were 100% sold out and all the staff seemed a little stressed. We finally found one of the restaurants did take out and ate on the beach, much better then a crowded restaurant. The staff is amazing, all the food was incredible and the cabanas on the beach are awesome (complimentary for 1 day if you are on your honeymoon). Definitely would stay here again but it's a tad far from the activities on the other side of the island.

It is absolutely stunning! The entrance is a forest with parrots and kids love it! They have a continuous pool that runs all the way down to this man made lagoon where you can kayak. Very cool! It is romantic for adults and super fun for kids! It is expensive, yes, but trust me, it is worth it. Also, if you book, try to get a room by the pool for easy access. I believe the ocean suite is super far from the pools, just a warning! The SPA is also amazing. Got a facial and pedicure and the staff is amazing and the products are top notch! Best facial I've ever had, I was glowing for days!

A 5 star hotel with beautiful grounds and pool area. Located at Shipwrecks Beach in Poipu. Exotic birds located around the hotel and some great shops too.

This hotel is gorgeous! Perfect for a weekend getaway! Very remote and peaceful, outside of the children yelling. There is an all adult pool for some quiet R&R. The lagoon adjacent to the ocean is lovely. Tide pools everywhere with beautiful flora. Lots of chill hotel activities. Best part is the heated toilet seats in the rooms with hygienic front/rear washers! Also love the sunrise yoga by the beach!

If you're headed to Kauai, consider staying in sunny Poipu at this stand-alone resort on the island's south shore. I'm not normally a fan of chain hotels, but I always recommend this resort to friends who are visiting Kauai and want a beach resort that's more laid-back than the hoity-toity Princeville scene. Open-air hallways, eco-green volunteering activities, Hawaiian cultural classes and an ocean-view terrace bar with live Hawaiian music and local hula troupes make you really feel like you're living in the islands.

Our family absolutely loved this place. Pricey, but great for the kids.
We went up to Princeville, was not impressed with the hotels there. But Hanalei Bay was like a beach in heaven. Definitely worth spending time there. There isn't much to "do" in Poipu except the beach, so you should feel comfortable spending time at the resort.

Just a short walk on the greenbelt. This is a beautiful resort hotel to enjoy.
Check out their Anara Spa for a massage of relaxation day. Library bar is terrific for a cold beer or sushi. Evening lanai hula show on Sat nights is the best.
Morning coffee on grand lanai. Open to the public and trully lovely!

A very nice and spacious resort. If you ask people who know about this place or have been here, most will tell you about their pools. There are lots of pools! The views from the pools, terrace, restaurants and certain rooms are beautiful.

Service is also very nice. Most people will greet you with a smile. They clean your room in the afternoon and tidy up again in the evening with some chocolate left on the bed.

My only complaint is that check-in can be very slow. Don't think that you can get in early, get lucky and have a room make quickly available. In hindsight, coming into Lihue in the afternoon would be more ideal.

This resort is unbelievably amazing. My husband and I walked through the entrance and we were just blown away. When we checked in we were automatically upgraded to an ocean view room at no additional cost when I had just booked a garden view room at a discount rate. They also sent up a bottle of champagne to our room, and because my birthday was just a few days before we checked in, they also sent up a basket of full size snacks for us to munch on the entire time, and again this was all complimentary. The several pools they have are incredible and I cannot do it justice enough to describe it, it definitely needs to be experienced. The also have beautiful parrots out every morning and my husband was able to take a picture with one of them on his arm. There is a beatiful golf course on the property to enjoy and also an amazing hike right behind the hotel that takes you along the cliffs of several beaches and right directly into the shoreline of the last beach. We will make sure we return, and after seeing a lot of Kauai, this is most definitely the best resort to stay at on the island. You will never want to leave!!

Getting There:
The Grand Hyatt Kauai is an easy 30-minute drive south from Kauai’s Lihue airport.

Arrival at the Grand Hyatt Kauai:
On arrival at 9:00 a.m. valet personnel were accommodating in every way. They took our luggage to their secure storage room, where they invited us to go ahead and open our luggage to locate beachwear so we could relax all morning in the pool area until our room was ready. Check-in is 3:00 p.m.

Checking In:
We left our cell phone number with the very accommodating front desk, to be notified when our room was ready. We were called “early”, before actual check-in time, and the friendly bellman brought our luggage to our room. Our first call for service was room service, which was speedy, beautifully done, and delicious. Second call was for a custom fill of the mini-bar, also efficiently executed by smiling and friendly staff.

Pool Areas:
The morning in the lagoon and pool area was relaxing, and we returned several times during our stay. The lagoon is in the style of a “lazy river” but with the beautiful surprise of winding through lush tropical foliage, with a huge twisting slide, spas dotted throughout, a bar near the top level of the lagoon, and a beautifully clean sand-bottom salt water lake at the bottom. Pure luxury to float down the lagoon, then exercise to get back to the top for a tropical drink. The poolside restaurant is near the bottom of the lagoon, overlooking a section of the lagoon as well as the ocean.

Excursions:
We planned several island “adventures” through Hyatt, including snooba, helicopter tour, tubing, and zip lining. Outback Adventures handled tubing and zip lining; Blue Hawaiian Helicopters was our choice for a full tour of the entire island including the NaPali Coast, famous waterfalls, and a dip into the main crater. Shuttle service to the excursions was efficient and timely in newer model vans; and both Outback and Hawaiian were outstanding tour operators.

Spa Days at the Hyatt Kauai:
Hyatt’s Anara spa was a disappointment. Services are costly, with reasonably nice but mediocre execution. My facial was far inferior to my local aesthetician’s service, and nearly four times the cost! I thought it was outrageous. The spa area is badly in need of renovation, with peeling door-bottoms, showers with flapping curtains, only one multi-head shower, a small spa, a very nice but crowded shower and locker room with lovely shampoos, lotions, sanitized hair brushes and other pampering products; but overall very disappointing because it lacked the expected upscale atmosphere. I did not feel luxury there at all, and felt the entire spa experience was far below standards expected at this otherwise luxurious resort. There are three dining tables in the unisex area of the spa, for ordering lunch; but the atmosphere is somewhat like the local Y pool area, no luxury there. Employees are friendly and accommodating, and I kind of felt sorry for them.

Rooms:
Rooms are nicely furnished, but could be oh so much better. Ours had a triple sliding glass door with a lovely view of the grounds and ocean, with two hammocks below which were frequently in use and looking very comfy. Our room was a little on the small side, had far to little table-top space. Lighting in the room was just plain awful! There were two table top lamps with low watt bulbs, and the hallway entrance had two low watt ceiling bulbs. This made the room very dark at all times, and actually hard to find things and hard to read at the table or in bed at night. There is no light over the mini-bar. I do hate living in the dark, and this really annoyed me. Fortunately the bathroom was all white tile and countertop, and lighting there was reasonable.

Balcony:
The balcony was small, with a little round table and two arm chairs; there is room for a third chair if needed, and room service meals can be served on the balcony. The view of the grounds and ocean was grand! The walk from the main lobby to our room was right at five minutes – each way – this is a large resort. If we forgot something when going out to the ocean or pool, forget it there’s no walking back unless it’s really important. Our room was even a further walk to the Anara Spa and the pool and restaurants. I wish we would have been warned of the long distance to our room and perhaps been given a choice to be closer to the amenities of the resort.

Housekeeping:
Housekeepers were very very good. Our room was kept sparkling and neat throughout our stay, and we were offered a generous selection of bath products. Housekeepers repeatedly asked if there was anything at all additional they could do to make us comfortable.

Restaurants:
There are several restaurants and bars on the property. Our favorite was Stevenson's Library for light meals and appetizers with drinks; then to Tidepools overlooking the ocean for dinner. Seating at Tidepools is outside as well as inside. Restaurant servers were gracious and efficient. Food in all restaurants is outstanding! The pool bartenders were always in a good mood, joking and singing, doing their best to keep everyone cheerful.

Check Out:
Check out was easy, with a computer and printer in the lobby for printing boarding passes. Bell people are friendly and efficient at checkout. There is free parking on the property, but it looked like a long walk from the lot, and we did not use this lot. The valet people thanked us for "valeting" and sent us off with a smile.

Of course I know it’s impossible for all these wonderful service people to be so happy and accommodating and enthusiastic about serving thousands of guests, and I’m no Pollyanna in this regard. They have to be nice, they have to smile, and they do it well. Their jobs are difficult, and they deal with horrid situations every day. I give Hyatt and their employees a great deal of credit for their great training program, and their conscientious attention to making every guest feel special. They did a positively wonderful job!

I recommend staying either at the south end of the island, at Poipu where the Hyatt is located; or at the extreme north end at the St. Regis. Do rent a car while on Kauai, as your opportunity for exploring will be expanded enormously. Many fun and beautiful places are an easy drive, some just minutes away. Don’t miss Spouting Horn at Poipu, Kalaheo Coffee Café in Kalaheo and the coffee plantation just down the street, stop in Koloa for sashimi at the Fish Market, drive west to the grand canyon of Kauai, see the double waterfall of television fame at Lihue, go up to Kapaa to the farmers market, and on north to Princeville and the St. Regis. It’s all fun!

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, like the Island of Kauai itself, is an absolutely beautiful destination. In addition to being at a tropical location rated among the best islands in the world, this four diamond hotel has absolutely every luxury amenity you could ever dream of. There are a variety of fun activities run by the hotel; including kayaking and nightly luaus. Within reasonable distance to great golfing and tennis facilities, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa seems to have done the impossible: created a man made paradise on par with the surrounding natural paradise.
