For foodies, the mix of Indian, French, African, Chinese and Creole cultures make Port Louis a great street food destination. There isn't a lot to see in the town but it is worth a quick whirl and your stomach will be grateful.

stopped for a few hours on our way from brazil to korea before the turn of the century in dec 1999. all of our crew who got to go out had a good time and got to see lots of indians and got to look at some amazing places in port louis

Visit to Pere Laval Tomb at St.Croix Port Louis. Visit the Crator - Trou-aux-Cerfs at Curepipe. Visit to Gris Gris at Souillac. Visit to the markets at Mahebourg, Quatre-Bornes, Curepipe and Port Louis. Visits to the restaurents at Quatre bornes, Curepipe and Port Louis. Going to the races at Le Champs de Mars at Port Louis. Picnicking at Baigne Boeuf. Visit to Chamarel to see the coloured earth. Going to a few organined balls in towns. Etc.,

Port Louis präsentiert sich als kulturelles, wirtschaftliches als auch politisches Zentrum der gesamten Insel. Hier arbeiten und leben die Einheimischen aus all den verschiedenen Kulturen derer, die hier nach und nach die Insel besiedelten. Wer also nicht nur an Strandurlaub interessiert ist, sondern auch an der bunten Kultur des Inselstaates, der sollte sich einpaar Tage Zeit nehmen und die Hauptstadt erkunden. Es ist zwar etwas hektisch und laut, aber die Mauritianer sind auch sehr gastfreundlich und helfen den Touristen gerne sich in Port Louis zurecht zu finden. Ich persönlich fand den Zentralmarkt, Little Chinatown und den Aussichtspunkt von dem Fort Adelaide empfehlenswert.
