The Hospitality Inn is a great option if you don't mind being further out from Portland city center and more on the outskirts of town. It's located along a busy street with many chain type businesses and restaurants nearby such as McDonald's, Best Buy, Olive Garden, gas stations etc. The surrounding area off the main road is very suburban and mostly residential areas. The hotel itself presents as clean and offers both double queen and single king size rooms. There is also a work out room and a pool on site. Room rates will run you about 82-92 dollars a night plus tax. This is not a bad choice if you're traveling with a car because max trains and buses are not nearby.

My Son and I stayed here for 2 nights over the Halloween Weekend. I made the reservations through at around $90 a night, which was both a bargain and a "you get what you pay for" experience.

The room was just fine, clean, and safe. The beds were comfortable, there was a nice pocket living room space near the window (with a view of the Round Table Pizza Building), the shower was hot, and the free wi-fi was strong. Breakfast is also included and was A-OK, although it could use some hard boiled eggs and a few bananas within the fruit selection.

On the other hand, the lobby and hallways had an odd odor, the decor was a little dated, and maybe the newish siding on the building was a harbinger of refurbishment to come. This is the kind of motel I learned to "love" growing up in the Midwest, but my Son wasn't so sure. Suffice it to say that when Gayle and I come up next June for my Son's High School graduation, I'll assume that my lovely Bride will expect an upgrade and it will probably be closer to downtown.

I also kept wondering about the signs. One off the Lobby warned that the restroom was for guests only and another cautioned that breakfast items should not be taken out of the breakfast room. That made me wonder about the neighborhood and who might be wandering in. I can't speak for this area of Portland, but our fellow guests were certainly an eclectic bunch.

Then there was the weekend staff that were nice and helpful enough, but had me thinking about whether the owners giving motivated but previously down on their luck folks a second chance. Add the Aston Martin car that was sitting in front during much of the weekend, and this place had me thinking contrasts during our entire stay.

One huge advantage to this location was the number of places within walking distance for food, fuel, and supplies. Dinner? There's McDonald's, Pizza Hut, an upscale Japanese place, and a neighborhood Thai joint steps away. An overpriced Shell station is across the street and right next to an I-5 on ramp. Also within pedestrian distance is Starbucks, Walgreens, Barbur Liquors, and a most impressive Barbur World Foods. So if you want cheap and decent accommodations, wish to hunker in with local supplies, or hop on I-5 to places beyond, the Hospitality Inn might be your ticket.

Located on SW Capitol Highway and Barbur Blvd, close to the I-5S ramp, the Hospitality Inn is centrally located in a very busy SW Portland neighborhood about five miles from downtown Portland.

As such it is within easy distance of all the main attractions of the Portland area , the I-5, and Portland Community College.

The Inn is a dated 50’s type hotel on the interior with the customer service flare and eager hospitality of those times to complement. This is a very clean hotel with not a lot to offer in terms of aesthetic comfort either in the hotel or surrounding it.

The rooms are clean and comfortable but not special as reflected by the moderately priced rates. Breakfast and wifi is included in the rate as is the use of a spa and fitness room.

The staff is really professional and warm, and I sensed a lot of pride in the hotel.

I would say this hotel is most suited to business travelers, but anyone would feel comfortable here. It’s a very ordinary hotel that has been made interesting by the customer service of the staff. Good choice if you need to be in the area!

Southwest Portland's Barbur Boulevard has lots of budget options, many of which are of the creepy roach motel variety and run around $40-$50/night. For just a few dollars more, you can stay in the Hospitality Inn, which is probably the best value for money that I know of in the area. The front desk attendant (who might also be the owner) is very friendly and seems to have a natural knack for making people feel welcome. The rooms here are pretty basic and not particularly modern in appearance, but they are clean and quiet. You can rent VHS movies at the front desk, 80s-style, and guests get free breakfast in the morning and cookies in the afternoon.
