Famous brewery in the heart of Portland. Good sour beers and great selection of food.

Went in late Saturday afternoon and place was PACKED. Good for beer drinkers and big groups. Not the most veg-friendly place, though.

Deschutes offers pub-exclusive brews in its amazing downtown brewery location, filled with ornate wooden carvings, beautiful antique light fixtures, and numerous awards. You can also pick up some Deschutes merch near the front of the brewery and they offer food options which are much more tasty than the normal fare you find in pubs.

Beer Beer Beer! The beauty of Portland is their local restaurants that offer tasty local brews. I ordered their flight to try a little bit of everything. I love this place. The vibe, stellar service and location spot is convenient.

Great brewery! It had very good food as well. I would highly recommend the pretzel aside from the beer of your choice.

We had to try this local king of breweries, and it was definitely worth the visit: we couldn't decide on one beer, so we chose the Brewer's Choice tasting flight, which offers six 4-oz. pours of their most unique and adventurous beers. Most of them were good, although being from San Diego, I am a little immune to creative beer (it takes a lot to impress me ;)) Still, it was a fun outing and good beer, and our server brought us complimentary stout-infused fudge brownies with ice cream (heaven on earth) as well as two extra tastings on the house. Score!

One of the best breweries in town. I tried their beers back in 2015 Oregon Brew Fest but this time I got to visit the Brewery & restaurant. My favorites are their IPA's and Black Butte Porter.

This brewery and restaurant located just north of West Burnside Street is a popular place and the queues in the evening are testament to that. Without a reservation expect to wait 20-30 minutes for a table, probably no more as this is a large eatery with a high turnover of patrons. Beer options are excellent, with countless to choose from. For those unable to choose there are the obligatory flights which give you a taste of each. Food is also very good, especially the Mac n Cheese. Service was friendly and the price reasonable. Outside tables are available when the weather is nice but I recommend sitting inside as the pavement tables are often overlooked by those queuing for their own table.

This brewery based in Bend, Oregon brought their distinctive Northwest ambiance to Portland. Here one can savor classic pub food made from fresh locally sourced ingredients paired with a draft beer. Take a breather from the bustling downtown in this relaxed urban space. The brew pub features 26 taps that include Deschutes staple beers along with a variety of seasonal and experimental beers brewed on site. Consider ordering a sampler in order to experience the full range of their offerings.

This is t your typical brewery tasting room. Be prepared for some seriously incredible food paired with you brews. Garlic fries, pear and goat cheese flatbread, tomato soup and grilled cheese, and the best: the yellow belly burger.

Thanks to the gogobotter recommendations, I went to this place! Located in downtown, you'll need to park on the street or at a parking structure. Try to park at the first spot nearby that is available. Going in circles can send you into a big loop since some streets are one way only. Even though they are known as a brewery, their food is really good! My husband got their chicken and waffles. They even have a kid's menu! It's family friendly so don't let the brewery name deter you.

Atmosphere was cool, I really liked the wood carvings. The place was big which was nice since it was pretty busy. The hostess gave us a wait time of 20 minutes, but we were seated pretty quickly. Service was good and fast. I don't drink beer but my fiance does and said his was really good. We ordered some appetizers to share; ordered the pretzel which I didn't like the dipping sauce and would not recommend, wings which I liked, but they do have a lot going on, and fries, which were good cause ya know fries are hard to mess up. Overall would recommend!

Great introduction to the Oregon craft beer scene. Located around the corner from Powell's. Black Butte Porter is my favorite. Food is quite decent. Generally crowded; so, be prepared to wait.

NOVEMBER 2014 UPDATE

Every time I come to Portland, I eventually end up in the Pearl District (among many other places). This time around, I returned to the Deschutes Brewery & Public House on the recommendation of my Son's Mother, who raved about the Elk Burger. The Kid and I were in the neighborhood at lunch time anyway, so why not?

This place remains popular, but the before we knew it, the blinky lights went off and we were seated. We both ordered the Elk Burger, mine with beer and salad (to keep things healthier), and my Kid with sweet potato fries. Father and Son agreed that our sandwich (and fixings) was delicious, service was prompt and friendly, and that we had a great time together, while talking and enjoying the surroundings. I also had "one for the road", which was a bottle of that tasty mustard to take home.

Some reviews have expressed some concerns about the service and the food here. And maybe the folks up here have higher standards for their plethora of Brew Pubs. Boy, I wish I had that problem!

However, both of us thought that the food (we split an order of fish and chips), the beer (I had the Red Chair IPA and Gayle had the Buzzsaw Brown), the prices, and the service were all just fine. In particular, it's hard to do fish and chips just right (tasty and light, but not heavy, sort of like matzoh ball soup) and they succeeded well.

Of course at this hour, we almost had this handsome and well wood-carved place to ourselves. And I'm sure we'll be back, providing that Portland's other temptations don't divert us along the way.

Great selection of beer. The pretzel was surprisingly tasty, as well as the bison burger. I visited two days in a row on my trip!
