Founded by two cousins, the artisanal ice cream flavors change seasonally but they also have some longstanding faves like salted caramel. Happiness in a cone!

Yum! Long lines, popular tourist trap but it's all for a good reason. The flavors they come up with here are something else and always at least one style for those of us who can't do dairy (though I'll sneak a bite of the others, so good.)

Popular ice cream joint thats similar to Molly Moon in Seattle. Smells like waffle cones and sugar as you walk in. Some of the flavors were strawberry balsamic vinegar and black pepper, pear and blue cheese, and almond ganache (my favorite)!

Salt & Straw is a tourist destination for sweets for anyone who visits Portland, Oregon! The shop is known for very unique flavors that are quite different from anything else. The ice cream is handmade in small batches using all natural dairy. Classic flavors include sea salt with caramel ribbons, honey lavender, Arbequina olive oil, pear with blue cheese (delicious), chocolate gooey brownie (amazing), and strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper (awesome). Other unique flavors include Oregon black truffle and sparkling mimosa sherbet. Since there are so many flavors, feel free to sample a few of them before finally picking your preferred flavor.Although not as creamy as other ice creams, the unique flavors more than make up for it. Believe the hype!

Amazing and creative flavor combos. Totally worth the wait and the cost.
I had a bourbon chocolate that was divine and my friend has the olive oil which was smooth and super silky. Delicious!!

Great ice cream! If you go during peak hours, expect a wait. House rules are, if you're buying a pint, you don't wait in line!

It's like Molly Moons in Seattle, but better.

Pear & Blue Cheese - Really fresh pear flavor on the front, ends with a hint of blue cheese flavor but not over-powering at all.

Olive Oil - very clean and exactly that, no gimmicks

Actually the Salt & Straw we stumbled upon is in Lake Oswego and in the summer it has longer lines than the top restaurants in town. Salted caramel ice cream and coconut ice cream are so good you will drive from Seattle to get more.

Salt & Straw is a popular ice cream spot in Portland's Alberta Arts District. What sets them apart from your typical ice cream shop are their quirky, outside the box flavors that are made with local and organic ingredients.

Flavors that on paper would sound like they would make for terrible ice cream, yet somehow they miraculously work. Ice cream made with olive oil or a combo of pear & blue cheese certainly does not come to mind when I think about this dessert.

Due to the shop's popularity, the line to get ice cream can stretch out to the street. However, the line seemed to move at a good clip. The shop inside was full of people reveling in their tasty ice cream selections. Be prepared to potentially have to take your ice cream to go. Not a bad idea if it is sunny outside.

When it was my turn to order, I decided to go with one of those quirky flavors. I went with a scoop of the honey balsamic strawberry with cracked pepper on a waffle cone. They do also have cups or regular cones if you prefer those instead. But seeing that the waffle cone is made fresh, I think that is the way to go.

While the flavor combo sounds weird, it does in fact really work. It is still strawberry ice cream that tastes fruity sweet except it does have a bit more of a tarty flavor as a result of the inclusion of the honey balsamic. If you prefer ice cream to not be cloyingly sweet, I think you will enjoy this flavor. The waffle cone itself was quite delicious as well. Everything about the ice cream that I had here screamed quality and well made to me.

I can see why Salt & Straw is so popular. The ice cream is made with care and the flavors standout from the ones you can find at your local grocery store. If you are looking for an ice cream experience that changes the way you think about this confection, Salt & Straw is the place you need to go.

Not as good as SF ice cream, but solid place and worth the wait. Browse the cute boutiques on the same street.

I had one of the best ice cream flavors here the last time I visited. It was one of their seasonal specials - Tillamook cheddar cheese and apple, something like that. It was a super combination of savory (cheese) and sweet (apple) and it rocked my world. Lines are usually long at Salt & Straw, but SO worth the wait because it moves fast also. It's pretty much the equivalent to Seattle's Molly Moon's ice creamery.
