People travel from across the Pacific Northwest for this ice cream (my wife being one of them), and it rarely ever disappoints. They use a lot of local floral notes in their flavor, and their concoctions may sound different, but they are complex and always interesting.

The famous ice cream shop that Oprah featured. Olive oil, salted caramel, pear & blue cheese...need we say more?

You can't read about Portland without reading about Salt & Straw, known for some of their more unique creations. You can sample flavors before buying them, and I had a hard time choosing between the pear and bleu cheese or the goat cheese marionberry habanero, so I got a single scoop that was half and half between those two. Service was exceptional here. Don't let the idea of long lines scare you away--we were here in the afternoon of a very hot day (90+) when you'd think people may want ice cream, and the line was extremely short.

Absolutely my favorite ice cream place ever! There's always a long line but it's totally worth the wait everyone I take there always loves it!

Great ice cream place with unusual flavors. I especially love them for the community support they offer in the way of donations for small local organizations.

The sweet smell of waffle cones and vanilla bean wafts towards you from down the block. Once you enter the door, your senses are inundated with the intoxicating scent of ice cream goodness. There are flavors, and then there are flaaaavoors. The featured monthly flavors are my preference; if I lived nearby, I might actually pop in regularly to try them all. You might have something as unique as a Missionary's Chocolate and Lemongrass Curry Sorbet, or a Cocanu's Cloudforest Vanilla with Passionfruit & Dark Chocolate. Whatever flavor you order...can I please have a bite?

Interesting flavors but hard to eat more than a sample of most in my opinion.

Mmmm crazy good ice cream, many local flavor and many flavors not found in other shops. Be ready of a large line on weekends if you want scoops. But if you just want whole pints there is a self serve case that you can choose from and go direct to register. Definitely a place I plan to return to.

The best ice cream I have ever eaten, hands down! Quite expensive but the price is justified by the excellent ingredients they use. Not to be missed!

Our first night in Portland we ate dinner next-door to one of Salt & Straw's locations. The line for this ice cream shop was down the street for a solid 3 hours. We went back the next day after hiking, because we just had to taste.
Loved that there was not line, again think we caught it on an off time. Loved
the Chocolate Gooey Brownie, it was amazing!

This is a must stop in Portland whenever I visit. There is usually a line out the door, but it's worth the wait! They have seasonal flavors like berry season. I recently tried the strawberry and toasted white chocolate ice cream and it was simply amazing! I've also tried a Tillamook cheddar with apple flavor, sounds weird but it was a nice balance of savory and sweet. All ages love it!

Great ice cream! If you go during peak hours, expect a wait. House rules are, if you're buying a pint, you don't wait in line!

I don't care what you put in your ice cream, I'm not standing in some dumb line for some chain ice cream fad. I find the fanfare tedious given all the amazing dessert options in this city. Sorry, some things I won't do.

I would fly to Portland just to have an ice cream cone from Salt & Straw. One of the best parts about going into the caramel and waffle cone scented shop is that you are happily encouraged to sample from every ice cream bucket. All flavors are delicious and innovative, but my favorite is almond brittle with salted ganache. Ordering your ice cream in one of their waffle cones made in house is a must!
