Wildwood Trail. The park is also poplar for bicycling, joggers and nature lovers; the centuries-old Douglas firs were first noticed by William Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) and still provide a canopy of peace in the midst of a large and busy city.

Great rainforest trails start in Marquam Nature Park about a 10 min walk from the house and then connect on to Forest Park. I frequently go trail running up here. It's beautiful shady and the trails connect to the north and the south so you can make a full day semi-urban hike out of it if you like. You can hike all the way to the Rose Garden or to the Zoo and then take the NS Street Car back to the house.

Really nice trail. Can be steep in areas, but beautiful area and can get crowded.

Best place where dogs love to walk their people. Scenic and incredible views and on sunny daze watch for local sunbathers and bring your shades because it's been months since they have seen the sun!

A great big park right next to downtown Portland. Plenty of hiking trails to keep you busy. Very green, and has nice views over the river.

Portland's answer to NYC's Central Park or SF's Golden Gate Park, this sprawling wilderness area is astonishingly wild and beautiful on its own, but especially considering it's within city limits. There are miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, and plenty of places to stop and picnic or check out the view of the city.

One of the biggest innercity parks in the country, Forest Park encompasses miles of woodland trails, and is super popular with hikers and joggers. The most popular trail here is the Wildwood Trail, which is around 30 miles long and connects Forest Park to the adjacent Washington Park (where you'll find the zoo, the Rose Garden, the Children's Museum, and the Japanese Gardens). The Audubon Society is also inside the park.

it's amazing. its a forest right in the middle of a city. it feels like you're out in the woods far from the city, but you can get there really quickly from downtown/pearl/NW. it's always awesome.

There are tons of hiking and biking trails in this area. It's close to downtown but not too many tourists would think to go here. You could hike in the beautiful green trees for hours! Parking can be limited. http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?PropertyID=127&action=ViewPark

Biggest park in America I think? It's definitely bigger than central park by far, you will like it a lot if you go during the summer. Great to pass through if your walking and going somewhere nearby for a break. Terrible during the winter.

Great spot up in the hills to bike / jog, limited views but nice trails. For the mountain bikers there is some pretty epic single track throughout the park, mostly gnarly downhill with some painful climbs if you go off the main carriage trail on the way up.

One of the largest forested parks within a major city in the U.S. You could totally get lost in here. I would love to do an overnight backpacking/camping here. I don't think that it would be legal per say, but I wouldn't be hurting anyone so I might try it anyway.

Frickin' huge park, really is a forest, and a good sized one at that. Tons of trails for hiking and running... streams, wildlife, birds. Nothing beats the sound and smell of being in the middle of evergreens and ferns. Pure bliss.

Spanning over 5,000 acres, Forest Park is a great place in Portland to jog, hike, and bike. I heard weekends can get crowded, but I've been during the weekdays and there weren't that many people around. It's huge, scenic and highly recommended if you want to experience nature but haven't trekked out to the Columbia Gorge or other natural areas outside of Portland.

Forest Park is one of the largest urban forests in the country. If you like to bike (or hike if your traveling light) then its a great way to get in some nature, and spring and summer in the Pacific NW is really perfect for weather. Watch longboarders tear down some of the roads and other classically Portland antics, drink some stumptown, and enjoy the beauty.
