Las Vegas’s little cousin, Reno offers myriad slot machines and quickie wedding chapels to the gambler or Johnny Cash fan seeking Reno’s seedier side. If you're not looking to gamble or get hitched, however, Reno is also a launchpad to many a ski resort. Plus, the MidTown District is lined with shops and restaurants, and north of downtown, Animal ... Read more

Reno is a great little home base if you're looking for some skiing or gambling.

Traveled to the Grand Sierra Resort in winter. It's a fun weekend from the Bay Area, but not as grand as Vegas.

I love Reno! All of my family lives there and there's so much to do! You can go into casinos, find an ice skating rink during the winter, and eat at a bunch of cool places!

Reno is a fantastic little city. My favorite way to travel is via Amtrak over the sierras. Particularly lovely in winter with the snow. Hot August nights is a fun event.

Highly recommend checking out The Reno Aces and their really cool new stadium with cool bars & restaurants. The waterfront plaza walk along the Truckee River.

The Sands Hotel offers clean rooms at very reasonable rates.

Reno, also known as the biggest little city in the world, is an interesting place to visit. The casinos are the main attraction, but you are very close to Lake Tahoe ad all of the fun that the mountains bring. This is a much smaller version of Vegas, without as much of the glitz. There are some great restaurants and outdoor activities.

Reno is also known as the "The Biggest Little City in the World". It's famous for its Casinos, serves as a jumping off point to the Tahoe Ski Areas, and is a bustling metropolitan area in its own right. I've been here to gamble, to take training, to stay overnight after skiing, to shop, and to visit friends. If and when Gayle and I move to Genoa, Reno will be the closest cultural center. There's a little pause for thought there.....

It aint the biggest lil city in the world for nothing... trust me I have enjoyed the best and worst of this city more days than I have a desire to count. yet I still absolutely love it.

I have seen it grow tremendously and remember it how it was before... It still remains true to almost everything it used to be. Lots of little parks all over town and plenty of interesting things hidden here there and everywhere; for example, the Harrah's auto collection, the reservation tobacco store & trading post, UNR, the itty bitty local shops that you find in small towns and some of the corporate chains that have become synonymous with much of our country.

Consequently it has things that no where else does or can. This is both for better and worse. But I can say that I love it regardless.

There are many awesome things to find here:
*Unique mom and pop restaurants
*Proximity to Lake Tahoe
*Proximity to Virginia City
*Reno Air Races
*Hot August Nights (week long Car Show)
*Annual Rib Cook Off
*bi-monthly Gun Shows
etc...

Let alone as my buddy Roy wrote, it has one of the greatest song lyrics ever written about it, "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" Johnny Cash 1968.

Absolutely awesome... check it out if you never have, it is well worth a trek out here for exploring both the big city and the small town lifestyles simultaneously!

Reno is the charming little sister of Las Vegas. It's smaller in both size, scale and grandeur, but it still boasts many of the attractions (great shows, gambling and dining) that Las Vegas offers. It's also got that old Western frontier charm!
