National Historic Landmark and a must-see for any history buff. Along the 5 mile road you can see monuments honoring Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, Jefferson Davis, "Stonewall" Jackson, Matthew Fontaine Maury and Arthur Ashe. The Robert E. Lee Monument is the oldest, as it was unveiled on May 29, 1890. In addition to the monuments, the street is lined with spectacular churches, homes and apartment buildings with many different architectural influences.

Monument avenue is a little over an hour from our Lake Anne home. Its historic and leads you into the heart of Richmond where you will find great restaurants, hiking, biking, museums like the Va Art, Valentine, Civil War. Shop local on Cary Street. Catch a movie at our historic Byrd Theatre.

Cool avenue to drive up and down a couple times to see all of the monuments to famous Virginians. There's a large representation of civil war heroes, not counting Arthur Ashe, the most recent addition to the avenue. My favorite is the iconic statue of Stonewall Jackson.
