          Rome Hotel Insider
Often considered among the most romantic cities in the world, as well as one of the most historically significant, Rome is one of those places everyone should visit at least once during their lifetime. It’s a veritable collection of great architecture, top-notch cultural offerings, scrumptious food, and – of course – great shopping. There’s so much to see that you need at least a week or two, or maybe a lifetime, to truly immerse yourself in all the city offers, a fact all too well-known by the millions who visit each year. But whether you have two days or two weeks to explore, you’ll find that when it’s time to find a place to stay, there are countless options, ranging from small privately owned hotels to the biggest international chains. Rome has been steadily improving its tourist infrastructure during the past decade, spurred by a huge surge in visitors. You’ll find that during the peak seasons of June, July, and August, it can be very difficult to find a room without advance reservations. Those accustomed to hotel rooms in the U.S. will note that rooms in Rome’s hotels are often much smaller. You haven’t been stiffed - this is just European size. Be sure to ask if your room is air-conditioned, as many are not, which can be rough during the hot Roman summers.

Neighborhoods and Things to Do in Rome
Most first-time visitors to Rome wish to concentrate on seeing the city’s most notable monuments and attractions including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Arch of Constantine, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and many other famous spots. Looking to dig a little deeper? The three-layered St Clement's Basilica or a tour of San Pietro in Vincoli are just two lesser-known attractions. Upscale options easily accessible to Rome’s many wonderful tourist spots include Hotel de Russie, the Villa Spalletti Trivelli, and Hotel de la Ville Intercontinental, all close to the Spanish Steps. The very modern Radisson Blu Es., with its minimalist Japanese designs, is just next to Termini Station, easily accessible to many sightseeing locations. There are also a number of hotels close to the Vatican City, where many visitors choose to spend at least a day exploring the museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. These include the Starhotel Michelangelo, very close to St. Peter’s; the Visconti Palace Hotel, a bright and airy contemporary property; and the Residenza Paolo VI, which provides an epic view of St. Peter’s Square. Many of Rome’s hotels are also known for their fabulous restaurants, offering not only Italian cuisine but other types of food as well. The Imago at the Hotel Hassler, for example, boasts spectacular food and a location that can’t be beat, seated at the top of The Spanish Steps. Also of note is the Sapori del Lord Bryon, often dubbed one of the most romantic eateries in the city, located in the opulent Art Deco-style Lord Byron Hotel in the Parioli neighborhood, not far from the Villa Borghese. Also lauded for both its food and its view is Pergola, located inside the Hilton Cavalieri on Monte Mario.
