Love the zoo! 5 minutes from the cottage by car, a little longer by bike. Straight up N. St. Marys until it dead ends. Take the train ride while you're there

It was cool, but I've seen better. The children's zoo is great for kids though!

San Antonio's first zoo consisted of a collection of animals assembled in San Pedro Park in the 1800s. In 1914, Colonel George W. Brackenridge, one of the city's leading citizens and founder of the San Antonio Express-News, placed buffalo, elk, deer, monkeys, a pair of lions, and four bears on land he had deeded over to the city in what is now known as Brackenridge Park. This collection became the San Antonio Zoo.

We have purchased season passes for the past few years and absolutely love the zoo. They've added so much in the past year and even till this day, we are still discovering something new when we go. My children love zoo, the hands on activities the zoo hosts and the train ride at the end.

We recently visited the zoo to see its newest exhibit...the indoor Hippo's habitat. Believe us just one of the many exhibits worth the trip.

The San Antonio Zoo is a wonderful attraction just minutes from our property. Dress comfortably with good walking shoes, there's much to see.

Year round fun at the zoo!
Beautiful setting with the San Antonio River running through the middle.
Located in the middle of Breckenridge park where you can ride a scale model train, enjoy a picnic or get a walk through the beautiful Japanese Gardens
Breckenridge park is also the home of the second oldest public golf course in Texas (front nine).
People with kids need to check out Kiddie Park miniature amusement park located at the intersection of 3015 Broadway St. and E Mulberry Ave.

One of my favorite zoos that I've ever been to. The zoo seems like a maze to get lost in, which I love. There are lots of trees for shade during the summer.

Fun for children and adults!
Ride the train around Brackenridge Park or tour the newly renovated Japan gardens and Tea Room.
Kiddie Park is located near the zoo. It is a San Antonio icon - generations of families have enjoyed this old amusement park with rides for small children!

Recognized as one of the top zoos in the country, the San Antonio Zoo exhibits a vast collection of 3,400 animals representing over 600 species. Our natural rock cliffs offer a scenic, realistic backdrop for our African savanna and bear species, while the tree-lined San Antonio River presents a naturally-occurring environment for one of the largest bird collections in the country.

Love this zoo! They got 2 black leopards a couple of years ago that are really cool. Their komodo (sp?) dragons had babies last year and those were neat. We once saw them trying to clear an alligator nest and the female tried to protect it and got the male to help her. Really interesting but saddest thing to see. They recently made 2 new additions, Out of Africa and out of Africa 2...AWESOME! Don't forget to ride the train while you are there and the Japanese Tea Gardens are right next door.
