This hotel is not THAT terrible. I "lost" the Comic Con hotel reservation lottery and got assigned this hotel. I was freaking out at first but once I checked in, I realized it wasn't that bad of a place. The tiled fountains and oleander-packed grounds actually made me feel as if I was in Mexico.

The rooms have the old timey motel style that reminded me of the roadside Motel 6 I used to stay in when I was on road trips as a kid. Of course, the Best Western has put lipstick on that pig, so to speak, and the room looks a little modern even if it doesn't feel like it's of this decade. My room also had that musty smell too, which was not a positive. At least all of the guest rooms are non-smoking!

My room was clean and comfortable, and I loved the old school a/c because it kept me nice and chilly during the hot and humid July days. The noise didn't bother me either because I like a little "white noise" when I'm trying to sleep.

My room was near the gate into Old Town, so I had to descend and ascend a very tall, steep staircase. This probably isn't the best choice if you have mobility issues or use a cane or wheelchair. You will get a workout when you stay here! The location is good, it's at the very end of Old Town so you'll have to walk 15 to 30 minutes (depending on your speed) to get to the trolley (it's at the OTHER end of Old Town from the hotel). There are a couple of Mexican restaurants at the bottom of the hill from the hotel if you need a quick drink / meal.

The staff was friendly and housekeeping was efficient. One thing I hated was the nightly $19.00 parking charge. There's a garage to the hotel but it's super inconvenient and very cramped. That it cost nearly 20 bucks EACH NIGHT to park was an additional slap in the face.

I'm not sure if this would be the best choice for tourists on a trip of a lifetime to San Diego because you aren't getting any beachy feel whatsoever. You ARE close to the fresh, warm tortillas of Old Town so if you like to eat overpriced, touristy Mexican food, this might be your dream hotel. Personally, I wouldn't willingly choose to stay here but it wasn't so bad for a 3 night stay during the Con. Then again, the entire property was overrun with nerds so that in itself was pretty rad.

Went for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend and had a wonderful time! The hotel is located on a hill overlooking Old Town and is only a short walk from the coaster stations as well as all the shops, restaurants, and bars. Our room was HUGE with high ceilings, complete with ceiling fan, and a separate sitting area. The rooms were also equip with flatscreen TVs and air conditioning. A great bonus of the room package we bought is we had access to the brunch buffet the next morning at the on-site Acapulco restaurant. A beautiful place to stay if you are looking for a vacation spot close to Old Town and public transit to explore the rest of downtown San Diego.

I loooveeeee this hotel. First off, when I came into the lobby the lady in front of me was throwing a fit over something of other, and the receptionist was extremely kind and apologetic, even though I thought the lady was a little out or line. The staff is outstanding! The property, located jumping distance away from the center of historic Old Town, is quite marvelous. I felt as though I had warped to Mexico and should be drinking a margarita (which I could have found easily enough in the restaurant) and listening to mariachi music (another relatively easy thing to find near this hotel). The room was quite large, even though I only saw the most basic of them. The pool is beckoning, with a pretty wonderful view of San Diego. I could sit by the pool and watch the airplanes come and go all day without a care in the world. This place really has it all, and on my way out I even saw a sign in the parking garage that offered complimentary bike wash products in the lobby...if I had only brought my Harley!

This hotel certainly does justice to the beautiful scenery and style of Old Town. The grounds are lovely to wander around (especially after a couple of margaritas from the restaurant on-site), and the pool looks perfect for lounging around and cooling off in after climbing the seemingly endless staircases. My basic bedroom with two queen mattresses was quite spacious and updated, and had very lovely patterned bedspreads. The bathroom was clean and updated with marble countertops, but weren't particularly spectacular. While the rooms can seem a little packed together from the outside, they're still larger than your average hotel room. All in all I'd say this hotel is best for vacationers and even the local stay-cationers, simply because the hotel and the surrounding area lend themselves so well to casual meandering and basking in the lovely San Diego weather.

I enjoyed this hotel when it was just the Hacienda Inn. It is another great location. It is nice walking distance of old town and easy access to San Diego's Public Transportation. Again though if you want some beaches for the kids...the best western a bit north is a good one.

Location, Location, Location. This is the location to be at if you wanna spend a day at the Old Town San DIego Historic area. Literally in the Old Town area, you don't have to walk far. With friendly customer service and descent rooms for the price, this was more about the convenient location. They also provide 2 free bottle waters, free WIFI, and have room service by Acapulco Mexican restaurant. Now overnight parking is $12, so beware of that. Also note that rooms near the front entrance can be loud. But overall, we had a great time down there and would definitely stay there again.
