I felt like I was missing something when I walked up to this place. I know it was right near the ocean, but their website must have used a filter on it. It looked a bit dirty on the outside, completely unassuming and the paint looked like it was peeling or something.
I gotta admit, I didn’t like this place. It was on a street with I think a bar and while it may be perfect for hipsters and beach bums, I didn’t feel safe. That’s probably because the hotel rooms on the first floor were all out of the open without a fence around them. And they’re perfectly nice on the inside, but between the lobby not feeling like a lobby and the bustle of people going to the beach, it didn’t feel 100% secure.
It was, however, right near a pier, is gorgeous at nice, and there were some friendly faces in the day. I guess time will tell whether or not people will see its charm.

This place is super quaint and cool. It's almost right on the water and the owner was nice, we even saw her taking a midday break to go surfing which I thought was awesome. The room was themed to the ocean and very blue and cool, and it had a large kitchen area. The bed was gigantic and I think was a California King, and the living had an adorable old armoire. Cool side note is the lobby lets you rent beach cruiser bikes for 10 bucks for the whole day, and it is a great way to see the La Jolla.

I loved this place - it's a total beachy, hipster hostel-like inn right on the beach in La Jolla. It's very unassuming when you walk in to the receptionist working on her laptop, who takes midday breaks to go surfing, and breakfast is served right in the entrance room/lobby. The room is ocean-themed and super homey with New England beach house style furniture, a GIANT bed (they call it king, but I think it's even bigger than a California King) that could literally sleep 3-4, and a cute little bathroom with rolled up towels and wicker baskets. Plus, the location is unbeatable: the ocean is just outside the front door, and La Jolla nightlife is walking distance the opposite direction.

This basic motel has a few things going for it: location, it's got kitchenettes, and it's not expensive. Our family got 3 rooms here, one with a kitchenette, and we had a great reunion. We had breakfast and made picnic lunches in the motel and had dinner out. We didn't spend much time in the motel, but appreciated the location near the beach and restaurants. It's also a short drive to downtown San Diego, or La Jolla.
