Cebu City

A very elegant, classy and comfortable hotel within walking distance to the convention center, the gas lamp quarters and Little Italy. It's also near the trams and buses. Highly recommended.

For the price, I thought this hotel was fantastic! It's in such a central location that is convenient to everything -- dining, bars, shopping, and tourist attractions. It's nice that we got to walk everywhere and explore Downtown SD by feet! Other hotels in the area were ranging $200-300+ so we definitely got a great deal here.

The hotel lobby is also beautiful! It's modern, chic, and swanky. The front desk help are also fantastic. Everyone was so friendly, efficient, and accommodating. The hotel also includes access to their fitness center, and FREE YOGA CLASSES IN THE MORNING!! I didn't get a chance to take advantage of it, but it's a nice amenity to offer. It gets better -- free bike rentals up to 3 hours, free high speed wifi, 2 complimentary water bottles & coffee. The room is also equipped with a microwave and mini fridge.

Ok, so on to the not so good. These rooms are TINY. I live in a small loft in DTLA so small spaces are no stranger to me, but DAMN. There is barely any living space or walking space, and very limited storage/closet space. The showers have no doors so you literally get the entire restroom floor soaked after showering. But by far the worst thing was that the hotel room was loud. The walls are thin so you can hear neighbors and people in the hallway, and the AC UNIT IS SOOOOO LOUD. The entire night the AC was making a very loud humming noise that kept us up. No one got a good nights rest because of it.

This was HQ for 4 of us during Comic Con. The location of this hotel was great since it gave us the option of either walking a few blocks to the convention center, or crossing the street to catch the shuttle. The staff was very nice and even extended our check out time by an hour. The rooms are nice too, but I wouldn't consider them spacious if you're only opting for one with a single bed. It will get pretty tight in there, which it did once we started filling it up with the exclusives we purchased. I'd probably consider this for a more leisurely trip rather than a busy convention, but the experience overall was great.

Really pretty hotel and they give a complimentary Yoga DVD as well! Initially I had a regular room with queen sized bed but because wi-fi didn't work in that particular room, they upgraded me to suite. YES, PLEASE.

The suite had a king sized bed along with a "living room area" so it was more spacious and a better view of the city. Very classic decor and the restaurant that's part of the hotel has great happy hour deals and yummy popcorn creations!

It's walking distance from the Amtrak station and bus/trolley lines. You really don't need a car here, and can purchase a day pass for the public transportation system. You can borrow a bike (first come first serve) in the mornings as part of a tour.

If I need to stay in a SD hotel again, I'd pick the Sofia.

This spot was clean and pretty with nice views of the city. The rooms were a tiny bit small, but sparkled with an elegant sense of class. By far the best parts were the excellent beds with big plush bedding and the fun hall lights depicting scenes from this historic hotel's past.

Background: Used to be called Pickford Hotel and through historical tax credit/government subsidy, renovated to become the Sofia Hotel. Rooms are compact but come with modern upgrades.

Pro's:
In downtown and close to the mall, bars and restaurants, and the waterfront. It's also priced competitively and they offer repeat discounts and also early booking specials. They also carry Gilchrist & Soames (http://www.gilchristsoames.com/) toiletries, whichm isn't that enticing enough? Yoga/recreational room on the 2nd floor. A nice brasserie restaurant called Currant connects from the lobby.

Cons:
No balcony views, no pool/spa

**AWESOME SERVICE BUT SO-SO ROOMS**

We stayed here for Comic Con for $179 a night. Valet parking is $30 a night.

We stayed in room #326 which faced the Grey Hound station. Unlike previous reviews, the buses were not loud and we slept soundly. The queen room is small, but not tiny.

The queen bed was short, our feet dangled, which was slightly uncomfortable. The bathroom was modern, but not convenient with the glass half-door for the shower. Water flooded after every shower.

We received exceptional customer service from the front desk and the valet. They were friendly, easy-going, and helpful.

Hotel is central to everything. This is a BIG PLUS; especially if you plan to eat or party in the Gas Lamp.

It was a fun stay, but I expect a bit more space in a hotel room.

RECOMMEND for business solo travelers but not for couples or families due to tight-spaced accommodations.
