Celebrated our anniversary in San Diego and decided to try Cucina Urbana since it had great reviews. The ambiance and decor were nice and upscale and perfect for a date night. However, the food was very underwhelming and generally salty with overcooked pasta. However, the polenta dish has nice presentation and the polenta itself was very good although the meat topping was very salty and lacking much flavor profile. We probably only spent 30 minutes having dinner and each time our server came to check in on us, it certainly felt rushed. Would recommend the restaurants in Little Italy for italian food since our experiences and food were generally better in that part of town.

Excellent rustic Italian restaurant . Great vibe and design and quite hipstery , at least all the stuff people looks this way :-) They do everything in house and all products come from local farms . Highly recommend to order the grilled calamari they brined it for 24 hours , massage the calamari , not a joke :-) and then Grill it to order

Such a quaint, rustic, classy joint with delicious food n drinks. Huge bar area with happy hour drink specials and offers first come, first served seating which is great since it's always packed. Right on the corner of 5th and Laurel with $7 valet parking available. Enjoy the meat and cheese boards and pizza! The lamb shank was divine! Make a reservation!

This is a staple restaurant for Banker's Hill, walking distance to Balboa Park, always lively, always fun, and always delicious. We come here a couple times a year for anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

Came down here with the man for his friend's bridal party. The couple wanted to try this place out so we had reservations for a party of 12.

We had a prefix menu which were excellent choices and were seated in the wine room area. Loving the decor. dimmed lighting and wooden furniture to accent a winery look.

Starters
Stuffed Squash Blossoms: Must! Unlike anything you'll have. Tempura? Asparagus? Wait until you get to blossom.
Summer Melon + Quinoa Salad: I love quinoa. the melon adds a refreshing sweet taste and the bits of bacon was a surprise.

Main
Margherita Pizza: nothing too special, although I really like their tomato sauce
Hen of the wood = Oyster = Cremini mushroom pizza: Must! I didn't realize there were oysters until now, as I write this review. Delicious! The hint of truffle oil made this pizza that much better.

Spicy shrimp angel hair puttoneseco: Loved! Jumbo Prawns and spicy tomato sauce on angle hair with olives and capers. If it were my last day on Earth, I'd have that pasta for my last meal. (Because I love prawn, and tomato base angel hair pasta).

Short Rib Papparadelle: my least favorite, although the boyfriend enjoyed it. Just too salty for me.

End
Dessert Sampler: Some of the dessert were just ok. But the one that stood out for me was the:
Roasted Strawberry Fregolata with Vanilla Gelato. Best. Thing. Ever!

I had the white sangria, sadly that fell short for deliciousness. Not much fruit infused for flavor.

Great service and accommodations. Recommend making reservations. I see why they have such high reviews.

Bon Appetit!

Located in Bankers Hill and one block from Balboa Park, this is one of the two or three best Italian restaurants in the city. Reservations are strongly recommended.

One of the best places to dine for Italian! Located in Bankers Hill just outside of Balboa Park, be sure to make a reservation beforehand because it's always busy!

Got here a reservation the day of at around 6:45pm. Lucky us :) we went there around 6 to enjoy the HH. We were seated soon after and ordered the mushroom pizza, brussel sprouts and squid ink risotto and it was de-licious. The best dish may have been the risotto. Had tons of flavor to it and went well with the pizza (since it was a bit too doughy). Overall meal was fantastic :)

I recommend Cucina Urbana for dinner, and then take a trip to either Gelato Vero (the best) or Extraordinary Deserts on the way back to Coronado. ;)

This place is always packed but for good reason. The pizza is hand crafted and wood fire baked. Delicious!

Wow I am so impressed! One of the most phenomenal Italian restaurants I've ever been to! The garganelli and Brussels sprouts are my favorite, but every dish was phenomenal!

The food and drinks were delicious. Their foraged mushroom pizza was tasty and filling. The wait-staff were friendly and helpful, making recommendations, and it seemed that if I so much as glanced to find one she or he was already at my side.

One of my favorite restaurants in SD. Get the short rib pappardelle and the fried squash blossoms. The daily specials are a great deal, too. The wine is so cheap here, take advantage!

Make sure you make a reservation more than a week in advance, and I promise you won't be sorry you did! This fresh, italian/california cuisine is moderately priced, with great service.

Food is above average, but not spectacular compared with some of the many Italian restaurants in San Diego. My favorite dish is the bur ata in olive oil and garlic is a fantastic appetizer. However, if you're looking for a nice, quiet place for dinner, this is not it! It is quite a scene and can get pretty crowded.
