This place is pretty cool with many local shops featuring Mexican style items. It can be a bit touristic but certainly a historical area.

Fun to walk around and see the different shops. Kids will love it for it's old west feel. You can take the trolley here as well.

Lots of local history packed into once place! They do an excellent job of making the history relevant to people today, and often have fun activities for all ages! Very well preserved, with some good Mexican restaurants to boot!

There's not much to dislike about Old Town San Diego and its touristy shops and restaurants. It's free and open to all, and the pretty grassy area is the perfect place to relax and people watch on a nice San Diego day (which is nearly every day of the year). There are historical sites mixed in with overpriced souvenir shops, and mostly mediocre Mexican restaurants lining either side of the main drag. During the summer, there's an awesome outdoor market on the weekends.

You can get much better food elsewhere in town, but what makes Old Town so famous is their warm, fresh tortillas! Nearly every restaurant makes them from scratch and some even have walk up windows where you can purchase a made to order disc of flour-y goodness.

Parking can be nonexistent and expensive during busy times of the year, and at the end of Old Town there's a convenient trolley stop. The historic buildings are all free to enter. A good place to visit if you're in San Diego.

A fun place for both kids and adults. One of the best places in San Diego for Mexican food. And lots of history in the offing. Old adobes, turn of the century buildings re-purposed as restaurants and souvenir shops, etc.

Local from San Diego, California

Old Town San Diego marks the site of the first Spanish settlement on the U.S. West Coast and features 12 acres of Mexican heritage and historical sites, colorful shops, early-California-style restaurants, museums, a theater and the restored Cosmopolitan Hotel. On the hillside overlooking Old Town is Presidio Park where Father Junipero Serra founded the first California's Spanish mission in 1769. The museums here and at the current Mission site, the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá in Mission Valley, have excellent exhibits about the area's early history.

Love Old Town. Great shops and restaurants and the historic part of town is very well put together and interesting to learn about the beginning of San Diego.

Bring the family and have a return to the past outing. Shops with Mexican themes and specialty stores abound. There are outdoor activities on the town square and even a haunted house. The Whaley House in town center, former home, Courthouse and Jail. Take a tour if you dare. Or just enjoy the 19th century homes to tour and the world war 11 museum.

Old Town is one of the most visited sites in San Diego. It offers an interesting glimpse into San Diego's past. Hint: There are really two old towns. One is the area with all of the restaurants. The other true old town is the pioneer town. Be sure to ask so you don't miss it. It is worth a few hours of exploring!

I didnt find it very interesting but as it is really easy to get there by trolley and is free entrance, you definitely need to go. You could walk around, make some souvenir shopping and take really good pics. There are real mexican food restaurants too.

Guadalajara Grill is our favorite! The fajitas or shrimp and avocado crisp can't be beat!

Our personal favorite. We love the history, the abundance of the best Mexican food, the culture, the entertainment...our top spot. (not so much the Cosmopolitan for food as this generic picture shows) There's too many other great places.
