that it feels like someplace entirely different. The wind is harsh and will actually push you around sometimes, and the temperature will be much colder than the city. You are surround by nothing, rocks and ocean, but you have the best view of the entire city. The lighthouse was built in 1854, and looks straight out of Nantucket. It is fun to poke around and go inside. This was one of the first lighthouses on the west coast. The Point Loma National Cemetery is right next door, and a stirring landmark on its own.

Beautiful look out point beside the Cabrillo statue. Reminded me of Pennsylvania.

There is nothing that can quite prepare you for the majestic beauty of the San Diego Skyline, as viewed from the Point Loma Lookout, save maybe viewing the Hong Kong Harbor, the Skyscrapers, and Kowloon from the Peak.

The wind will threaten to lift you right up and over the cliffs, but don't miss this breathtaking view of the open Pacific Ocean. Since San Diego straddles an enclosed bay, open waters are only visible from a few places, my favorites being either a boat tour (consider the Hornblower Cruises in my San Diego guide) or from Point Loma. In Cabrillo National Park, walking trails and scenic lookouts abound - including this prominent cliffside vantage point on the opposite side of the hills from the Cabrillo Monument (and nearby the old lighthouse.)

Point Loma is a seaside community within the city of San Diego, California. Geographically it is a hilly peninsula that is bordered on the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, the east by the San Diego Bay and Old Town and the north by the San Diego River. Together with the Silver Strand / Coronado peninsula, the Point Loma peninsula defines San Diego Bay and separates it from the Pacific Ocean. The term "Point Loma" is used to describe both the neighborhood and the peninsula

This lookout is all along sunset cliffs, much like your balcony at our home.
